I just really don't have a similar experience. I love sports, I just don't have any team I'm passionate about. We haven't really had a local team to pull for that doesn't let people down every season. I mostly follow players rather than teams. I just don't have the ability to get overly hyped or overly disappointed. My wife's brothers have had Bengal season tickets since 1990, so you know what I get to talk about at get-togethers...

I was born and raised right here in Northern Illinois. I am a homer for no real reason. My Dad was not into sports at all so I guess I just ended up as a fan of the teams I saw play both on TV and in person. I am a fan of the Bears (and have 2 season tickets), Bulls, Blackhawks, and Cubs/White Sox. Not a huge baseball fan so yes, I do cheer for both teams.

We live only 13 miles form the Cheddar Curtain (Wisconsin boarder) so around here it is usually Bears vs Packers smack talk.

We have a lot of Pittsburgh fans here as well. A lot of folks grew up in the area and moved down here at some point for better job prospects. We have our own share of Cowboys fans right here in the heart of Redskins country. I have asked why they are Cowboys fans and the typical answer I get is that they always liked them as a kid. Easy to follow a winner. I see a lot of kids now wearing New England Patriots merchandise....again easy to follow a winner. I always remember the Patriots were horrible up until the last decade. My sister-in-laws ex-husband is truly a fair weather fan who I really don't respect at all when it comes to teams. When I first met him about 20 years ago or so, he was a huge Broncos fan. Then he turns into a huge Buffalo Bills fan. Then it was the Colts, now the Patriots. I joke around with him that he will eventually have merchandise from every team in the NFL.

Around here steeler fan is sickening. They call the players by their first names(Ben,Troy,James,etc..) like they used to play kickball with them or something. Only fans i know who will cheer a fair catch...hell they'd cheer if "Rapistberger" farted and it didn't stink.

I'm north of you, a few towns east of Hershey. I'm with you, everyone around here is either Pitt or Philly fans. Very few of us normal people who root for a stellar team around here!!

And while I will not disagree with the comments made defending Philly fans, I will tell you this. My friends who are Eagles fans can dish it out but they can't take it. The year Dallas spanked the Eagles three games in the same season, including a playoff game, I didn't see or hear from them for MONTHS! But let the Eagles win a game by a point, much less the spanking they gave them last weekend, and I am getting phone calls and emails up the whosiewatts! One of them called me the NANOSECOND the game ended. The clock hit 00:00 and the phone rings and my wife says "there's Rich". And sure enough...

I guess you nailed it. How often do you see me posting angry/grouchy comments here? Never. And then I let a crack about my football team preferences set me off!!!

I don't disagree with that comment, but I do have a problem with being called a fraud just because I don't root for the home team. I never did understand that "root for the home team" mentality. Root for whatever team you want to. There are plenty of reasons why you might want to root for another team.

Exactly what is that supposed to mean?? I live in PA smack in the middle of Steelers and Eagles country and because I never lived in Dallas, or have relatives in Texas, that makes me a FRAUD? Talk about being ignorant, look in the mirror dude. I have been a Dallas fan for 40 years and for my own reasons. There is no law anywhere that states you must be a fan of any given team if you live near them. Last I checked, this is a free country and you can root for whatever sports team you like. I my opinion, rooting for a team JUST BECAUSE they are the local team is ignorant. And YES, we were having a fun time in this thread until you stuck your nose in with YOUR ignorant comments. I'll probably regret making this post but you struck a nerve.

Ah, the good old NFC East. The Redskins, Cowboys, Giants, and Eagles.....some of the oldest teams in the NFL and some of the most bitter rivals in sports. Most people I know who are Cowboys fans liked them since they were kids...and it was because they were perennial winners when most of us were growing up. I grew up in a house where both of my parents were HUGE Redskins fans (and do live in the area). People sometimes argue that I should be a Baltimore fan but honestly, I lived closer to Washington D.C. than Baltimore. We only had one tv in the house and like clockwork, every Sunday we watched the Redskins play and it was our family bonding time. My wife likes the Redskins but doesn't love it like my mom. My kids will watch the games but do not have anywhere near the passion that I have. Way too many other distractions such as internet games, etc.

I know philly fans are very passionate and knowledgeable and i dont think i was trashing them, but they would still boo your kid on easter if they didnt find any easter eggs. Dont be such a hard on man just talkin sht. Hell Mike Schmidt might be the greastest 3rd basemen ever, he'd hit three hrs then ground out and catch hell. Man i know thats not all the fans just like any other team/city
