I noticed two things though.

2. I always thought Vancouver's streets were pristine for some reason, but I saw trash all over the place.

Depends on where you are at. The Granville Street section where the vast majority of gentlemen's clubs, bars, and nightclubs are located is much dirtier than the Robson Street section where all of the upscale shops and restaurants are located. Vancouver is my #2 favorite city in North America behind Chicago.
