Not to hammer on my own agenda, but I do think this is an important point to raise:

In a 2010 analysis of cancer registries, he and colleagues found that patients with neuroendocrine cancer who were eligible for surgery (the cancer has not spread beyond the pancreas) “can have outstanding outcomes,” living for many more years."

And the really important part:
"Despite the expert consensus on the value of surgery, Jobs did not elect it right away. He reportedly spent nine months on “alternative therapies,” including what Fortune called “a special diet”."

I can't help but think than earlier treatment might have made a difference. 9 months seems like a long friggen time.

Did they actually say that in those words? If so, Ah... Hello - iPod, iPad. If those two aren't the best seller's in their categories, then I don't know what would be.

Yeah, most people with it do not last long. I actually lost one of my best friends to it. However, when you're one of the richest men on Earth, there are all kinds of things available to you... Six years with pancreatic cancer??? That's completely unheard of. There are A LOT of doctors and health professionals asking a lot of questions right now-- The biggest one being; Will they make what kind of treatment he was on, public? My guess is no-- Not unless they wanna start world war 3.

"Based on 31 cases, including three patients who had a Whipple procedure similar to Jobs's, they calculated that 59 percent of patients survived at least one year, 47 percent were alive at three years, and 36 percent survived five years or more. The rates were better for the kind of neuroendocrine cancer Jobs had: 69 percent of patients with metastatic carcinoid tumors were alive at five years."

Whipple procedure seems to be the most common and most effective treatment. My uncle is going into year 2 after his Whipple surgery - and seems totally healthy and active.

I think he had the same type of Cancer Patrick Swayze had, Pancreatic. Most people who have it don't find out until it's in the late stages. No symptoms of it until it has progressed.

It was pretty shocking to hear the news. I agree his name will be read in history books and to kids that never saw him alive will be as well known as Edison. I never really paid much attention until they mentioned on the news that Apple had surpassed Microsoft in market cap value and never was the best seller in one particular category of items they sold.

Jobs deserves to be mentioned alongside other industrialists/visionaries such as Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Walt Disney, and of course...his contemporary rival...Bill Gates.

Wow that is really tragic. 56 is so young to pass away. This Blade Runner quote from Tyrell seems very fitting "The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long. And you have burned so very, very brightly" I've used Macs for many years, since the early LCs, so thank you and RIP.
