This was really, really tough for me. If this poll was classified in music types I could break it down easier.

    To me...
    This best bands are

    1. Beatles (John, Paul, Ringo and George. They say if the Beatles appeared today as a new band they couldn't even buy a record contract. Yeah, so what. Come on, look around this place. The Beatles are like the George Washington of rock bands. Besides John Lennon being my biggest idol, no one has been able to touch the Beatles. At least if they do, they just rip them off.)
    2. Led Zeppelin
    3. Deep Purple (Ian Gillan on vocals only. Rod Evans, David Coverdale, Glen Hughes and Joe Lynn Turner had no business singing for Deep Purple. I am glad Ian Gillan is back and has never left the band since his return in 95)
    4. Van Halen (With David Lee Roth only. The version with Sammy Haggar was and should not have been called Van Halen. To me, it wasn't.)

    5. Kiss (As long as there is Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, it will be KISS. Everything they have put out I own and I love. They are my favorite hard rock band because they crossed and combined the boundaries of show and music. No one can touch that.)

There are tons of them. But here are the five I hate the worse that I hate..

    1. Limp Bizkit (God, I hate Fred Durst)
    2. Korn (The singer of this band is a whiny ***** and it really ****ed me off when they used the puke-face as the singing voice of the vampire Lestat in queen of the Damned when he sang. That ruined the whole movie! When I originally read that book I originally pictured a Ronnie James Dio or maybe a Peter Steele voice for Lestat's singing voice. They killed that whole movie for me using the jerk off from Korn's singing voice. What were they thinking?)
    3. The monkees (I hate anything to do with making fun of the Beatles and trying to be funny. These guys started out as a joke and little teeny girls took them serious. They suck and can't even play their own instruments)
    4. The Pink Floyd version with Syd Barret (Can you say crap? I hate it when people praise this version of Pink Floyd. As far as I am concerned, Pink Floyd didn't start until David Gilmore joined the band.)
    5. Primus (Why do people like these guys? Let me take my bass and play it like a guitar and sing into a microphone like I am ********. Nuff' said. They suck.)

    Me Best }

    Marilyn Manson
    Zep
    Pantera
Old school Metallica,.. anything Black & before
5th spot right now Velvet Revolver,.STP/G&R. just can't get enough of their tunes after the concert I went to.

Honorable Mentions,.. Prince, Beatles, Elvis, Slipnot, Mudvaine, & Zombie. .. I like all sorts.

    Bands I think just Blow }

Avenged Sevenfold. Man, I can't get into them. All their songs sound like they should not even go together.
Not fond of the Deftones,.. everytime I hear a toon from them, it sounds so depressing.
Kiss,.. sorry I like thier "look" & marketing stratetgy, however I was not a kid of the 70's, so I think everything but rock'in roll all night is just horrible.
Boy George & the culture club. Man,.. what kinda Crap was that ?
& Agreed on Striper... Man, that was seriously a bad time for "Hair Bands".

With the exception of Stryper,.. all the bands I named are very rich, or were I assume, so they must have reached out to someone.

Also agreed on all the Boy Banded pop artists... however I do not consider them rock bands.

Coach...wasn't Styper a Christian heavy metal band that dressed in black and yellow stripes? They looked like bees/wasps. I agree...they were AWFUL! I think they sang a song titled: "To hell with the devil"
Thats them alright, and I have a score to settle with the singer guy!

Back in '86 or '87 I won 4 tickets to one of their shows from a radio call in give away.

We knew they sucked, but some friends and I got way drunk and went to the show anyway for the amusement value. At one point they threw a bunch of pocket bibles into the crowd, and one of 'em hit me in the face and gave me a bloody nose.

    So yeah, FU Stryper!

These aren't necessarily my favorite or least favorite, just who I think should top the lists.

    Best:
    1. The Beatles
    2. The Rolling Stones
    3. Led Zeppelin
    4. U2
    5. Pink Floyd

Worst: I'm not including obvious boy bands
    1. Kiss-not the worst band of all time, just the worst huge band of all time
    2. Warrant-watered down Poison, does it get any worse?
    3. Grateful Dead-less drugs, more practice
    4. Bush-derivative of the bands before them
    5. The Goo Goo Dolls- Okay, I just hate them for some reason

    Hmmmm....

    BEST:
-Blue Oyster Cult: Dunno what these guys were smoking, but they came up with some really weird stuff. I like weird. (Can't go wrong with a band who writes a song about Godzilla.)

-Judas Priest: More songs about robots stepping on guys than any other band. (Metal Gods, Painkiller, Juggulator, Solar Angels, Blood Red Skies, Electric Eye..... the list goes on.)

-Jethro Tull: Every song is a story, every story has a moral. They've written about all sorts of things too; usually from the perspective of the little guy, which I think more folks should do.

-Big Rude Jake: 30's style music, modern sensibilities. ("Blue Pariah #1" would make the PERFECT Batman theme song, too.)

-Savatage/Trans-Siberian Orchestra: Big music, big ideas; someone ought'a use these guys in a movie. "Dead Winter Dead" and "Beethoven's Last Night" are two of my all time favourite albums.

    WORST:
-U2: back in the day they were UNAVOIDABLE! Sanctimonious, repetitive music, and shallow lyrics. ("War is bad." Hmm... did'ja come up with that one on your OWN....?)

-The Doors: ....er.... I find it tough to tell when one song ends and the next begins. They're lyrics are pretty bad too. (No, when you're strange EVERYONE remembers your name....)

    -Rush: Low impact indie rock.

-any boy band: From the Jackson 5 to N*SYNC they're all the same. ("OOO-oooo-OOOO Baby I love YoUUUUU!!!!!! OOOOOO-OOOOO!!!!")

-Nine Inch Nails: I have a personal vendetta against these guys 'cos back at the U the guys I hung out with were HUGE fans of "Pretty Hate Machine," and I had to listen to that album over. And over. And over.....

they Opened for Kiss, Billy Squire, Cinderella, afew others i cant remember now. I was in the Air Force from '86 to '90 and was in Texas for all of it. They seem to have played alot in Texas.
    re: RATT
I know they opened for Squire pre-INVASION OF YOUR PRIVACY TOUR---
sounds like they reverted to openers though sometime around 1987
    according to your post----very interesting

As far as TESLA goes----I'm not much into the blander hard rock bands
---if there's not a notable nasty or goofy side to them---their talent is
inconsequential (TESLA undeniably had some talent) I did always think
the hook riff to their MODERN DAY COWBOY was real unique and intense
---I still put that song on every so often

That's odd. First time I saw RATT, BON JOVI was opening for THEM (1985 or
    86)

Did RATT open for bands at any time post-1984 thru the end
of their "heyday" in the 80s?

Either way----when did you see them?

I hear Ratt's singer has a horrible rep as a "live frontman" type
but I remember loving the show I saw, but, then again, I was 14
and it was my first arena show

    My top 5 are probably:
    SPINAL TAP
DAVID LEE ROTH solo or in VAN HALEN (I don't think it matters much who he plays with)
    KISS
    AEROSMITH
    BEATLES

It's tough to say though....so here's my full list of artists I listen to the most and would
say are my favorite (major label only)....

Abba, Adrian Belew, Aerosmith, America, Autograph, Barry Manilow,
Beastie Boys, Beatles, Bee Gees, Billy Joel, Black Sabbath (Ozzy
era), Cheap Trick, The Cars, The Clash, Cake, Danko Jones,
David Bowie, David Lee Roth and Roth era Van Halen, David Wilcox,
Def Leppard, Donnas, Donovan, The Doors, AC/DC, Edie Brickell,
Fastway, Fu Manchu, Green Day, Guns N Roses, Carole King
Hamell On Trial, Jellyfish, Joan Jett, Billy Idol, The Cardigans

Rabin-era Yes, Original "Asia" line-up, Queens Of The Stone Age,
Crosby, Stills & Nash, Lenny Kravitz, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fleetwood Mac,
    Eagles, ELO...

As far as my top five I DON'T like...
Well, that's hard to pick, but if I see you guys rally
behind a band I think are annoying I may comment

Never been a fan of PEARL JAM, but then again I saw them
in concert and they impressed me---as would U2, I'm sure
(U2 I like better than PJ anyway)

I'm not into any realy heavy types of music---extreme metal or extreme punk---
---Metallica is okay, but I wouldn't put them in my favorites list

I could take or leave R.E.M.....and I never got the whole "Radiohead" thing
(people seem to think Radiohead are geniuses)

    Well, that's it for now
