I've known a couple of radio tower climbers over the years and they are indeed an odd lot. This guy however (and his partner) must be completely insane. The money is okay I guess... most of those guys get paid by the foot. The guys I knew averaged $150 per ft climbed. I would bet these guys would exceed that rate.
I'd also imagine that their life insurance premiums are through the roof if they can even get it for work related deaths. One upside though would be that if they did fall burial would be easy since they would probably end up well below six feet upon impact.
Not only would I do that, but instead of climbing back down, I'd jump it... That would be RAD. I've base jumped off bridges, cliffs and buildings, but never anything like that-- Looks SO fun.
I highly recommend it...this French high-wire artist, Philippe Petit...walked on a wire between the Twin Towers...with NO safety harness...unreal...too bad only still pictures exits...I don't think he was captured on either film or video...
He was on that wire for 40 minutes...he walked back and forth...even sat down...oh my God...that was even worse than that tower climber...the only reason I have not fainted yet...is because the wire walk is only still photos...but imagine that captured on video...or seen it in person back in the day...yikes.
Here's another good one...but at least this guy as a foot safety harness...unlike the Frenchman...
