I think it was also common practice in Biblical Times for a brother to marry his brother's widow or at least the custom. I also know it was fairly common practice even in the U.S. going back not that long ago (especially in farming communities). My mom's mom died when she was very young (7 kids) so my grandfather married her mother's sister. I also have a great grandfather...same sort of situation. Wife died young leaving him with a lot of kids and he ended up marrying his wife's sister. I guess back then when farming families were big and communities were small, there really weren't a lot of options for many widowers.

I'm still hoping someone with a huge action figure collection will adopt me...

Nope. Couldn't do it. Adoption seems the more logical choice if someone simply wants to share their love with a child.

I couldn't father a child and not be a part of their life...if it was for a brother, I probably could do it

I'm sorry. I'm not mature enough to respond without being dirty.

I would have no moral problem with it at all. You did say it was a very good friend, so what kind of a friend would I be to deny them a chance at some possible happiness?

Now my Wife on the other hand...might haven issues with it.

I don't have a moral issue with it for other people but no, I couldn't do it or would want my wife to either. Just wouldn't like the idea of having someone with my genetic code that I didn't raise.

    Nutty question ..........

What if it was your brother who asked ?

It seems you two are the last of your family blood and your brother wants to help keep the line going.

My nutty question is, would that child be considered a child of incest ? ....... Because many places consider a relationship between you and your sister-in-law incest.

No, couldn't live with myself knowing there's a child that's part of me and I can't be part of their lives to influence and share with them.......and like what's been stated there are plenty of children waiting to have a good home and raised to be outstanding human beings.....

    You stole my answer!!!

I wouldn't have any problem with donating, if it went to someone I didn't know. If I would later see the child, and have another opinion about how to raise and treat it, that would be heartbreaking, so I guess that would be too hard emotionally.
But my true answer would be like Hector said: as long as there are kids out there suffering as orphans, I find it morally wrong to press Mother Nature into producing more kids. Save the ones that are here already first.
I have the same opinion about pets (not comparing kids and pets, ok?): as long as the animal shelters are full of unwanted pets, we should all adopt those instead of breeding more.

I would pass. It's not like there's a shortage of it out there.
