a couple days late . . . . In Texas we can shoot them out of the city limits in unincorporated areas. This usually means you need to know a farmer or someone who has some land. We go to a place that is ran by a volunteer fire dpt. you make a donantion and gain access to their field. It's a pretty good deal and suports a good cause as well.

Tho technically illegal in NY, years ago the cops turned a blind eye to fireworks most of the time. The most renowned display other than the official Macy's event was John Gotti's neighborhood, (the famous Mobster in Howard Beach).

I had a friend in an area nearby Gotti's neighborhood and I left his house one 4th and the trash cans were all set ablaze on every corner, people shot off whatever they wanted with no fear. You might get the impression you were in a war zone. Then Gotti was thrown behind bars and Guliani the mayor said stop all fireworks and now things are mostly quiet in Queens with a few exceptions.

I personally think our law is stupid.

Morgan County doesn't seem to have this problem. The only time I notice you can't set them off is when there's a burn ban in effect.

Its illegal here in Denver, Colorado to launch anything that leaves the ground. Which means I have to go to Wyoming to get the good stuff. Last year I received a 999.00 citation for shooting off the "good fireworks." This year we enjoyed a fine display of sparklers, smoke bombs, snakes and the little pops that look like they are wrapped in tisue paper.

I saw a County police car driving all through the neighborhood yesterday (even came up our cul-de-sac). The only possible thing I could think of was that he was looking for illegal fireworks and getting ready to ticket anyone who had thoughts. It was actually pretty quiet in our neighborhood last night.

Things seemed to have changed here in IL.When i was a kid i remember having to go to Missouri to get firecrackers, bottlerockets etc.Now there seems to be Fireworks stands setup in parking lots all over where you can buy the same thing we used to go to Missouri to get.About ten miles from where i live is a Fireworks "factory" where they make the BIG stuff that is used in all the Major Fireworks Displays in the area(and there are alot of them).Every town around does a display, the town i live in did there Fireworks "show" on June 26th.Anybody that wants to buy the BIG stuff and do their own show only has to get a "permit" signed by their Fire Chief. The only other stipulation,at least in my town is the "show" Must end by 10:00 which doesn't always happen. You will hear fireworks, two weeks before and two weeks after the 4th around here.

They sell them in FLA for "agricultural" use only. To scare away birds I suppose. Lots of "agricultural" sales tents on the roadsides right now.

In my Neighbor state New Hampshire they're legal...which is where Mainers go to buy their Fireworks. At least it was...we just passed a bill to legalize them in Maine. Unfortunately it will be 90 days before it takes effect...not in time for the 4th.

In NYC there are 100% illegal. Which means if you go on your roof this weekend and look towards known drug/gang neighborhoods and other “safe” places, you can see the equivalent of a T.I.E. fighter exploding every 30 minutes or so.

I hate the firework debate. We also have restrictions in MD. depending on county. Where I live, you can legally set off ground based fireworks. I can drive 20 minutes into PA and get whatever I want. My kids are happy with the ground based fireworks and leave the big stuff to the experts. I have neighbors who spend $2K+ per year on fireworks and they are ok but nothing compared to the real thing.

    Tennessee...watch the movie 'Dutch'

In Washington we have Tribal Indian reservations that sell the big boy fireworks...people travel by Ferry to the Res, buy stuff, then try to transport it back to the city. It's illegal to take them off the Res so the Washington State Patrol is using bomb-sniffing dogs on the Ferry system to sniff out the miscreants...

I remeber when it used to be fun to be a kid during 4th of July weekend...going with my buddies to the Fireworks stands - Boom City - and spending our allowance on smoke bombs, black kats, firecrackers, whistling petes, etc...now all the cities in the Seattle area have banned fireworks.

The laws are absolutely ridiculous. It will never make sense to me that I can purchase them in my state but not let them off. If your going to make it illegal for me to light them, then don't make them so damn easy to get. The police in my area usually turn a blind eye around the fourth; they'd have to ticket pretty much my entire neighborhood. It's like a war zone around here as the fourth gets closer.

You can shoot off fireworks here as long as you're outside the city limits.

When I would buy the fireworks I would just say that I was taking them to West Virginia and was going to be setting them off with family I have that live down there. and that was the end of any questions.
