Anyone who doesn't think this can happen need only talk to anyone living in England in the late70's. Britain was the world economic standard for 200 plus years. Once the pound was de-valued, they were rationing electricity and had a three-day work week to conserve power.
I don't know to what extent this would happen to the US dollar, but it's already lost 11 percent of it's value in the last half of 2010. I doubt it's something to sit around and be fearful of, but I think it's close enough to a reality to just be aware of it's possibility.
Many of our eBay customers are in England and I remember a 2-1 ratio vs the pound a few years back. That was as low as I can remember the dollar dropping but until we started selling I never paid much attention to it. Since then it seems to be hovering around $1.50ish per pound. We can always tell when the dollar falls vs other countries tender by our sales. For awhile we were getting a lot of Japanese buyers who are some of the nicest people I have ever dealt with.
The point to the US Dollar being cheaper is as more dollars are in the market, it would drive to cost of our exports down to the rest of the world. We should be able to sell more of our products to everyone. Hopefully, it does help and the economy will continue to improve.
My apologies meule i meant no offense i just get riled up about the states getting the bum end and im not even americain im canadian its just i feel that the states has done a lot of good in a small amount of time for a lot different countries again sorry if i came out too strong..

Easy there. No offence, but we - the rest of the world that is - don't owe you jack ****. I'm sorry to come on so strong, but that kinda language is dangerous. Sure, you helped us out in WW2, but you sure weren't here the first.
And I'm gonna keep it at that before this thread turns political. I applaude your patriotism, but the USA isn't better than the rest of the world, so please don't make it out that way. Cause frankly, that really does upset and bother me

The Americain Dollar can not collapse this was evident in the early 70 as well at one point it wass round mid 70 (cents) i recall coming to the states with mom and our dollar was higher ,i think which may happen is a large correction across the us based monetary system theyll remove those non gov types from your reserve that control your monetary
system then restructure the debt load then for a couple of years things will be bad for you and us (canadians) but the country will reassert its self as the sole dominant monetary structure in the world remeber other countries always used the americain system to base theu=ir finacial structures on and tweeked it to their advantage never give up on the americain dream folks its not time for this empire to fall and also your gold reserve is huge (PART 1)
I'll never understand why people WANT to live in fear.
Trying not to judge but it really is a USA thing.
RIGHT NOW something I dont know might be trying to kill me!!! SOMETHING in my house!!! I CANT wait till the 11 oclock news to find out what it is! I might be dead already !!!
It wasnt untill whats his name in Hitchhikers Guide realized the end of Earth meant no more Big Macs that he freaked.
If we wake up to a post apoloiptic world tommorow , TRU will NEVER get the next Retro wave!!!! PANIC!
( just watched Book of Eli: we need to stock up on Chapstick, shampoo and Wet Wipes, the new currency)
It’s a tricky question since there are so many variables.
....and yeah; them guys hawkin’ gold make me laugh. If society DOES collapse we’ll go back to barter. Gold will be as worthless as currency ‘cos there won’t be a unified measure of exchange. Although.... you could bean someone with gold. It’s pretty heavy. Of course, you can wipe with paper....
But anyhoo.... COULD the US dollar collapse? Sure. Is it LIKELY to happen? Not so much. ‘Course you have to define “collapse.” Will it become completely worthless? Not unless the world economy goes under. It’s too deeply rooted, even if it ceased as the universal unit of exchange. (Although that would be a serious blow.) So.... could the world economy collapse? Sure. We’ve come close a few times, but again; the odds are pretty low and you’d have to define what you mean by “collapse” first. When you think about it, the last time we saw something akin to the end of empire (which is what I suspect most folks picture when they think of the collapse of the dollar) was Britain. At one time they ran the world. Now, not so much. They’re still important, but nothing like the era of expansion. And yet, they haven’t disintegrated into a Max Max landscape of deserts, famine and spikey shoulder pads. So even a collapse doesn’t end in complete disaster.
....unless you listen to them guys with the gold. But I think Iron Maiden summed that up best:
Another Prophet of Disaster
Who says the ship is lost,
Another Prophet of Disaster
Leaving you to count the cost.
Taunting us with Visions,
Afflicting us with fear,
Predicting War for millions,
In the hope that one appears.
No point asking when it is,
No point asking who's to go,
No point asking what's the game,
No point asking who's to blame,
If you're gonna die, die with your boots on,
If you're gonna try, well stick around,
Gonna cry, just move along,
If you're gonna die, you're gonna die.
>the dollar being so low is all about Politics
Well.... not really. It has to do with GNP/GDP/projected GNP/trade rates/trade levels/manufacturing levels/projected trade amounts/and a bunch of other factors. Money is a funny thing; it’s inherent worth isn’t based on anything tangible. (As it was with the gold standard. More or less.) It’s based more on movement and relative position. So no matter how far the global economy might deteriorate the system still runs ‘cos currencies still hold some sort of relative value. Hence why I’d say an actual collapse is so unlikely. SOMEBODY will win.
Even with our last disaster, there were folks who MADE money, hand over fist. Mostly by betting against the system, but they still won.
>I'm still waiting for Federation Credits to be the sole 'currency'
HAW! ‘Course there are plenty of folks AFRAID of that.... and if they hear you they might think you work for the NWO....
