Bukowski was the master. Glad there are other fans around here!

My brother is a huge Bukowski fan...he wrote and self-published a short book titled "Bukowski Never Did This". I have a copy of it somewhere..

I enjoy Bukowski, but not necessarily for his writing. He turned me on to Fante, and for that I will always be grateful.
was it a typer or was it a machine gun?Leave a comment:

One of my faves.
And seeing as how the exhibit ends tomorrow, I don't think I'll be seeing it.Leave a comment:

BlueBird
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too tough for him,
I say, stay in there, I'm not going
to let anybody see
you.
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I pour whiskey on him and inhale
cigarette smoke
and the *****s and the bartenders
and the grocery clerks
never know that
he's
in there.
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too tough for him,
I say,
stay down, do you want to mess
me up?
you want to screw up the
works?
you want to blow my book sales in
Europe?
there's a bluebird in my heart that
wants to get out
but I'm too clever, I only let him out
at night sometimes
when everybody's asleep.
I say, I know that you're there,
so don't be
sad.
then I put him back,
but he's singing a little
in there, I haven't quite let him
die
and we sleep together like
that
with our
secret pact
and it's nice enough to
make a man
weep, but I don't
weep, do
you?Leave a comment:

Charles Bukowski - Poet on the Edge
I'm a big fan of Buk and my wife's Valentine's Gift for me was a visit to his exhibit at Pasadena's Huntington Library:
http://www.huntington.org/huntington...2.aspx?id=8020
The best part for me was seeing one of his early typewriters, radio and (heavily used) wine glass.
RIP Buk.
