The story goes that the younger Abrams kid (Marty's little brother) used to say "Me Go!" when someone was leaving the house to indicate that he wanted to go with them.

And then that younger brother opened up his own company named "U-Stay!"

I always called it MEG-o, because my only exposure to the word was in print. I thought it was a slangy variation on the word "mega." (I also grew up with Lego, so there was that phonetic influence as well.)

Now, hanging around the Museum and seeing the subject come up every once in awhile, I've been trying to re-train my brain to say MEE-go, even though it sounds weird to me. The effect of this has been that whenever I see the word Lego now, I mentally pronounce it "LEE-go". Mind like a steel sieve, I tell ya.

At any rate, it's nice to know I'm not the only MEG-o Head around here.

I always said "May-Go" (basically the Dutch pronounciation), and find it very hard to stop doing that.
We also say "Lay-Go" instead of "Leggo". What can I say, we're foreign!

I gotta admit i still say it that way and always will I don't know why, it was the way collectors use to say it when I was a kid and it always stuck

I have always called it May-go and still do, even tho I know it's wrong. I never saw the commercials as a kid, prob b/c I was born in 75, so I read it on their backs and pronounced it the same as lego.

I always said Mee-go. When I first started collecting in my late teens, everyone I'd come across would always tell me I pronounced it wrong. I knew I didn't because I could remember the commercials, and finally after a couple of years I got tapes of the old commercials and proved I was right! I still come across lots of collectors and dealers who say it differently and I don't bother to correct them, to each their own. Usually I'm just happy to find someone interested and willing to talk about Megos!

"Byyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy MEGO!" I SWEAR that in at least a couple of those TV spots the announcer stretches the yyyyyyyy....listen to ALL of them....

As to 'Costanza', ughhh, I dunno if its because I was raised in NY or what, but I cant stand that character...I'd pop him in the jaw! I MIGHT be able to hang out with 'Kramer' and the 'Soup guy', but NOT George...

Exactly. Like I said: "Byyy MEGO" remains in my head from youth. (As does that ad that shows Penguin's nose being shoved in the mud, and the announcer saying "Mr. Fantastic, with the power of invisibility..." ...HUH??) "By Mego" "From Mego"...etc etc..to ME it would be like pronouncing those older Kenner ads "New Stare Wurs Collection from Keaner"...it just sounds wrong somehow..

Although I can try and understand, it will always seem very STRANGE to me to hear it pronounced 'meg-oh'....I dunno....maybe its just me..
