Mike, I miss SHoney's biscuits and gravy, too But Waffle House is MY favorite. Closest one to me is in Indy. I hit it everytime I go to Mego Meet (going and coming)

We had a Bob's Big Boy near here quite a few years ago. Never heard the name Frisch's Big Boy, but maybe it just wasn't called that. The Big Boy statue was stolen several times, the last time it was thrown in a nearby quarry. Took awhile for anyone to see it down there as it was out of the way and not used. We never had a Shoney's but I remember eating at one on our way back from Florida a few years ago.

Yep, lots of them around in TN. Their breakfast and salad bar are great and the All American burger isn't too bad either.

There are Big Boy restaurants everywhere here, many are known as "Elias Brothers" Big Boys. Never been to a Shoney's.

When I read "Shoney's" in the title, the first thing I thought of was their strawberry pie. That pie was something else!

There's a few around here. The one in Decatur is now a Chinese buffet. Now I've either got to go to Athens or Huntsville. They've also have a great seafood buffet.

There's a chain with 4 or 5 locations in Ohio called Der Dutchman. It's kind of an Amish family place, with attached gift shop & bakery. They do a nice buffet. Highly recommended. My wife just reminded me that I recently referred to their dutch apple pie as a life-changing experience.

We used to have a Big Boy in our town. When I was in High School; we had quite a few pranksters in school. Someone stole the large Big Boy statue and cemented right in front of our school. They must have used some type of quick dry cement because the school officials had a hard time removing him and giving him back to their rightful owners.

1 here in Harrison, 1 in Branson, and 1 in the Mrs' old stopping grounds in Greenville Mississipi. The breakfast are still good but the rest is a bit lack luster. There used to be one in Little Rock years ago that was really good but was leveled to make way for a McDonald's.

Actually Shoneys and Frisch's Big Boy are separate entities these days. Only Frisch's has the franchise rights to Big Boy and the menu is considerably different.

In 1976 a dispute arose among the several Big Boy franchise holders. Shoney's gave up its rights to the Big Boy name, thus Shoney's restaurants no longer have a statue of the Big Boy mascot in front of the store. The restaurants were all simply renamed "Shoney's", the Big Boy sandwich was simply renamed the "double decker hamburger" and "Shoney Bear" was developed as a corporate mascot. From this point, the company was effectively separate from Big Boy.
