I do love the old Gold Key Star Trek comics with their Bizarro Trek adventures. Here's the guy that did most of the Star Trek comics. He did them, never seeing the show and only with a few publicity photos for reference. That shows in the final comic with lots of wonky renditions of The Enterprise exteriors, interiors and crew.
Over time, he learned more about the show and overall had more reference material to work with so the look became more like what was actually on the show.
But most of the time, the art itself was pretty good.
