Jalapeno Popper Burger from Sonic

I eat at Sonic probably 3-5 times a year (and have for the past 10+ years). I don't think they've ever gotten my order right. -
Lepage brings the weak tot action. He does that every now and then, and I have to pull a Banner on him and Hulk out. REJECTED!
Jalepeno Popper Burger for LIFE.

I've never been a fan of Sonic but there's one right down the street from my house so I'll give it a shot on the way home. We got a 5 Guys about a year ago here and I usually go there or a Bar & Grill joint called Sammy's Apex if I want a good burger.Leave a comment:

I have to drive an hour to hit a Sonic, so I've gotta want it pretty bad to go. Not a big fan of Jalepeno, but I do like poppers. Hmmm. Maybe if there's one along the way to Mego Meet....Leave a comment:

Well...I like to try new burgers at least once...it's a hobby of mine...lol.
I once ate a Kobe beef burger in San Francisco...just for the sake of having one during my lifetime...the bloody burger was $40...yes...$40...
It was fantastic...but $40???
Good for a one time experience though...
You could get a nice chunk of filet mignon for that kind of bread!
But then again,to each his own.Leave a comment:

Keep me posted, will ya? You're a fellow burger enthusiast, so I'd love to hear what you think of it. The key when eating it, according to the general, is to let a little of the Jalepeno Popper cheese run down the front of your shirt when you bite into one. Dave says that drives the girls crazy...

It's a tasty burger. No doubt about it. It's a double cheese burger with a couple of chedder poppers and a great tasting chipotle mayo. Pretty durned good.
Now, the bad news....
As a combo (medium tots and a watery Dr. Pepper) it was $7.79. Way too expensive and that has been my main harsh against Sonic for the last ten years. Add to that the fact that Sonic has carhops instead of being a drive-thru. You have to give these High School kids a tip. They are busting their butts. $9.79 total for a good (not great) burger, unremarkable tots, and a watery Dr. Pepper.
Let me put that cost in perspective. Gas is $2.57 a gallon here so, doing the math, I paid the equivalent of 1/3 tank of gas and I am still hungry. Leave out the tip (which I can't do given the setup of the restaurant), and it's still the equivalent of 1/4 tank of gas. Way too expensive for what it is. I'm not a cheap-o, it's just that I don't consider Sonic a "splurge". Seriously, Red Robin is about the same price (minus the tip) and you get free drink refils and bottomless fries.
Do yerself a favor. If you get one, just get the burger. That will still set you back $5 plus tip. Or...just order the cheddar poppers and put them on a cheaper burger. The effect would be the same.

But just outta curiosity...I'd like to take a drive to Hayward (about 15 minutes from Oakland)..and try a Sonic burger...
