Growing up on Air Force bases we swam at the base pool. Also swam in the Gulf and the Atlantic Ocean as well. When my oldest son was born my parents added a pool to the backyard. I swam there for 16 years until they moved to a new house.

As a little kid, I had a strong fear of water that was over my head. My parents would dump me off at the YMCA for swim lessons, and half the time I wouldn't even go. I'd just get my hair damp in the locker room and pretend I did. One time that I did go, another kid and I started to struggle in the deep end, and mass chaos ensued. This did not improve my attitude

Til this day I still have never swam in deep water. I love to swim laps and can do various strokes, but it's the treading water that does me in.

I have a pool out back, as do most of my siblings, and I have the ocean about 8 houses down from me at the end of my street.

My grandparents and my aunt had pools. We would go to a lot of different state parks with beaches on a lake, too. Everyone in the neighborhood would go swimming in the Mohawk river since we lived where the Hudson and Mohawk rivers meet.

    started a topic Swimming thread

    Swimming thread

Getting so nice outside today was reminiscing about the old day's when I wasn't too lazy to go swimming.

I used to mostly swim at the Jersey Shore (Sandy Hook) ... also in the local creek (or as we say crick)

We used to have a pool at the house (growing up) but it was only a 3-1/2 ft deep junkie one.

So, where do you swim ?
