RIP Fess Parker

Havent thought about the character in years admittedly.
The nostalgic side of me does feel a pang tho.

Man was I bummed about him dying at the Alamo! I remember asking my Dad why they did that. He explained to me the concept of historical accuracy.

When the TV series was created, it was divided into sections that corresponded to the areas of Disneyland, the promotion & funding of which was the real purpose of the Disney program.
Disney only expected the series to be a three-parter on the TV show to promote the Frontierland section, and was surprised as anyone else when the Davy fad took off. That's why Davy was killed at the Alamo, as they were doing a bio of the frontier hero(admittedly exaggerated) . Davy was never intended to be more than the three part story, but the public went Crockett Crazy and demanded more.

So faced with a hot property that they'd prematurely buried, Disney did the next best thing: he created the PREQUEL, telling adventures of Davy from an earlier time prior to the Alamo.

It's true, the historical Daniel Boone and Fess Parker weren't much of a match, but it was a great show, nontheless.

But to me, he'll always be Davy Crockett. When we first got Disney Channel in these parts 25 years ago (wow!), I got hooked on Davy and Zorro. I went to the video store and rented the whole original mini-series (not that they called it that back then). Man was I bummed about him dying at the Alamo! The man seemed much like his characters. Like Clayton Moore as the Lone Ranger, he believed in what he was doing. A rare man. Thanks for the years of entertainment Fess.

It was Fess Parker and Disney who singlehandedly made an entire nation (to this day) think Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett were basically the same person

That's sad but nobody lives forever. He will be missed.
He left behind a body of work that will be fondly remembered for generations.

Way back in 1974 when I was in Fourth Grade the school showed us the Disney movie version of Davy Crockett. I thought it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen! Fess Parker was awesome in the role making the legendary aspects of Crockett seem real. A few years ago I saw the movie again and it was still a lot of fun. Daniel Boone was also very good.

Thanks for the great memories Mr. Parker. Rest In Peace.

Oh wow...I finally got to see Daniel Boone when TVLand showed them 4 years ago, (to introduce the DVDs). I loved that show. RIP Fess.

Clint Walker and James Arness are still with us. But both very old too, right along with Clint Eastwood and James Garner!
