One of my nephews is a USPS postal carrier with truck.

He's been there for years now but they wont hire him full time so they don't have to pay his benefits.

Mailhandlers do have a tough and physical job...they are the ones working the grunt stuff 24/7...it's no picnic.

Now it's more automated...but mailhandlers still have to use their hands for the heavy stuff...loading and unloading tons of mail into trucks, planes, cargo containers, etc.

    UPS is no picnic either.

You have to understand...these people have to move millions upon millions of letters and packages.

    Desk job...now that's easy.

Personally, I wish they'd do it here. I hate delivering on a saturday morning. Most of my customers don't expect mail on a saturday anyway and most of them are under the impression that saturday deliveries are carried on overtime - ha, fat chance.

It seems like USPS is going through the same changes we are seeing here with Royal Mail. Competition and the type of post that is been handled is having a big effect on our jobs now.

We've never had Saturday mail here that I recall.

Also, we don't have many Post Offices either, they're all sub contracted out to drug stores and 7-11's here. it's a mixed bag, you can go to the PO 12-14 hours a day, 7 days a week here but it's often run by some 65 year old cashier who moves like a snail or worse someone who doesn't understand the services they provide.

Also, my parcel delivery guy (Syndey) isn't even an employee of the postal service, he's just some contractor in a beat up van.

I'd rather see them cut Wednesdays completely, or cut Saturday deliveries but still keep the centers open for people who need to do int'l mailing on Saturdays. My local office has a kiosk, and I can do just about everything from there except ship international.

USPS - Government Run and a complete fiasco. Coincidence I think not. Wanna see the USPS run correctly? Sell it to UPS. Not sure they're going to close the offices on Saturdays I believe the initial plan is to stop the deliveries. With the new flat rate boxes the system has become easier, just wish they would have more sizes and shapes of boxes. They're still more expensive than UPS on domestic shipping costs with tracking and insurance. Unless your shipping cotton balls, then they have an advantage. Anything a pound or better is far more secure with UPS. I ship about 2% of our packages at work via USPS and the rest UPS. I lose about the same amount of packages annually between the both of them. And the insurance claim through UPS gets me my payment in about 4 weeks and I've never had them dispute a claim in the 10 years I've been dealing with it. If it wasn't backed by the taxpayers the USPS would have folded long ago.

I scene this .... I dunno how to even address my thoughts on this .
    I guess I am a Bit upset .
With the consistant Rising costs of postage rates...
Topped off with the very, very long lines everytime I go here ..
just a little disapointed I guess .. with every Direction that USPS goes..., I know they layed off a few people here ..., and is it me, or everytime I run into 1 of these guys, or see them at the USPS , why the Hell do they act as if they always have the hardest job ever ? .

started a topic No more USPS on Saturday ?

No more USPS on Saturday ?

Been hearing this a lot lately on the news for the past week.

I have a feeling this time it's going to happen.

Would really suck for people who work during the week and Saturday is their only free time to ship stuff

USPS to propose 5-day mail schedule, major cuts - Mar. 2, 2010
