I watch Netflix instantly through my PS3 (as well as ordering them by post)...another thing we don't have in Australia.

    That's so true
Probably the majority of real mail is a few people paying their bills through the mail.

    Also, think about this .....

Does this mean just the post office wont be open on Saturday ? ... or does this mean not only will the post office be closed but the mail won't move as well.

As it is now the US mail moves 7 days a week including Saturday AND Sunday

If this changes, you will see the US mail delivery times change drastically for the worse.

Add 2 more days to what the current delivery estimates are now

I think USPS is taking losses because they overcharged themselves out of a job.

For one thing, most of their flat rates is a joke .....

A flat rate box the size of a VHS tape ? ... Who came up with that ?
    or
A large flat rate box that's too short and nothing fits in it.
    It doesn't make sense

    USPS's problem is they themselves.

I have been jealous of US folks receiving mail on Saturdays...Australia never has either. Our post offices have really expanded into other fields...they have retail goods, you can pay bills and all kinds of things. As well, there are many people serving, so you rarely have to wait long...whereas it has been my experience here you have to wait ages to post something.

It's hard to believe that they are making such big losses when the prices have gone up so much...they must be poorly run.

hours a day, 7 days a week here but it's often run by some 65 year old cashier who moves like a snail or worse someone who doesn't understand the services they provide.

Also, my parcel delivery guy (Syndey) isn't even an employee of the postal service, he's just some contractor in a beat up van.

Also, we don't have many Post Offices either, they're all sub contracted out to drug stores and 7-11's here. it's a mixed bag, you can go to the PO 12-14 hours a day, 7 days a week here but it's often run by some 65 year old cashier who moves like a snail or worse someone who doesn't understand the services they provide.

I'm guessing that's the route they want to go in the US. Most of the bulk mail transfer has been outsourced to private trucking companies already. You see the trucks on the highways with that old WWII US fighter plane logo of the star in a circle with red and white stripes coming out of it on both sides. Never see that particular marking on anything but those private trucks. Before DHL went under they were delivering stuff via private carrier that was outsourced. I say let em work 4 days a week 10 hour days. No more Wednesdays or Saturdays. Then cut the damn shipping costs appropriately. Never happen but I could live with it.

^^ I can vouch for that Hec...one of my best friends here is a postmaster. I find out about everything before it ever hits the news..

He is 2 years from retirement and can't wait to get out.

    Oh yeah...you are correct.

USPS management is the very worst...they should all get fired...we are in total agreement here.

You see...I have inside info on the USPS...the best qualified people do NOT become managers...the postal service is notorious for the buddy-buddy system within management.

    That's true.

He's in Texas ... Not sure if every state has different USPS rules or not.

I'm guessing it's the same everywhere
