I take really good care of my feet, so it grosses me out a bit, my lil' brother's dad use to always have the nastiest feet and toe nails ever, so I always swore not to let mine get like that

sorry guys, I mean no offense to anyone here , it's just one of those things for me

Thanks for the info Hector. I have 'em and I stubbed my big toe and ripped the nail right back recently. OUCH. Good to know there is a procedure available.

I had the procedure done in 2005...while I was hospitalized for my other problems.
i did that to myself last summer. since i am a podiatrist, i had all the equipment. it really wasn't that bad. just needed the courage to inject myself.

Never heard of that procedure. Thanks. Good to know.

Rallygirl--I am squeamish about that stuff but I read through your post with great interest. Wow.

I used to have problems with my big toe nails when I was a teenager. And one time, one of them got ingrown too much and became infected, so I had to get part of it cut out by a doctor. They're not too bad now though, and I try to regularly trim the parts that have a tendency to get ingrown, but it's a tough job sometimes.

    Wuss! LOL

I worked as a podiatric assistant for ten years and ingrown toenails were the least of what walked through the door. Scroll down if you are not squeamish about feet.

We saw elderly folks who had not cut their toenails in so long that they had grown down around and were embedded into the bottoms of their toes.

We saw folks whose diabetic ulcers were so bad that we could smell them when they walked in the door.

    ,..and some even had maggots!

We once had a guy who lived a few doors down from the office WALK in after his friend had accidentally run over his foot with a truck. When his foot came out of his shoe with his toes dangling by the stretched ligaments, we called an ambulance to take him to the hospital, where a major surgery could be performed.

And lastly, no matter what the humane society thinks about declawing, they will never make me feel bad. We did in-office hemiphalangectomies on people (partial amputation of first bone) every week. I even had one to rid myself of a pesky corn.

And for the record, I would work in a podiatry office any day over a gyno! Now that's gross!

VERY necessary. My big toes would get infected to the point where I could hardly walk. If I bumped my foot or someone stepped on it sheer agony. Now I'm good. glad they are gone.

    started a topic ingrown toenails

    ingrown toenails

While in my late teens, I had MAJOR problems with ingrown toenails. I have had thenails on both large toes removed and the nerves deadened so they never grow back. That's how bad it got. Anyone else ever have this problem?
