One time I looked out my front window (about 10 pm-ish) and there were at least 12 raccoons running around and playing, fun to watch and I knew they were not rabid, but I still didn't go near themYou and I are in the North West and our raccoons don't have the rabies issues the ones back east have, still you might not want to get to close.

We used to have a raccoon that would get into our garbage at work. One night, it actually popped out of a can about 1 foot from me as I was exiting. It never caused any problems, but then it started showing up in our parking lot and surrounding area during the day and wasn't hiding from the people. It was also very strange looking. A cop came out and shot it, but made my assistant bag it up and throw it out. It was definitely rabid.Leave a comment:

^^^ Feeding wildlife isn't a good idea, feeding alligators here is illegal.Leave a comment:

I feed Bob "the Racoon" I named up here... cheeze nips & some water.. likes to dip the crackers in the water,.. also took them from my hand a few times... Last Time I saw him/her it had about 4 babies with it.... that was about 5to7 months ago,... I dunno,.. perhaps it got it by a car,.. I have not scene him since. However I realize this might not be the smartest thing to do, but I think this particular Racoon was used to being hand fed,... he was different than most I ran across. Perhaps it was just looking to be fed ?.Leave a comment:

By the way, there has been a BIG problem with rabid raccoons in this area and on Long Island. They also tend to get pretty damn large around here and agressive in general. I would never, intentionally, get anywhere near them.

Tazzie Devils do run in circles...I thought it was just because they were bored in captivity when I saw them doing that...kinda sad.Leave a comment:

Freakiest thing this morning. I saw a raccoon in the back streets of this residential area where I parked my car before catching the train for work. It was in the middle of the street. It wasn’t crossing the road; it just kept walking around in circles. I once heard the real life tazmanian devil does that when it’s hunting. What the hell was the racoon doing?Leave a comment:

In Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan I think racoons are a rare thing. As you get closer to Long Island and upstate they are very common.Leave a comment:

Since you live in NYC, I am guessing it was really just a really big rat, dressed up as a racoon, acting crazy and rabid just so you wouldn't mess with it.Leave a comment:

A true hillbilly would have sent out his thirty something hound dogs to tree the poor thing or tear it to shreds, and then the hillbilly would have made a hat out of the remains.
Us coonass's here in Louisiana would have just made a sauce-pecan out of him and served him with opossum on the half-shell (armadilla).Leave a comment:

Off topic, a bit ....
Anybody ever see the 70's movie RABID ?
I tried to sneak into my local theatre several times trying to see this back in '77 ......
I was booted out the door every time
Was rated R or something
To this day,
I still never seen it.
If anyone here has watched it........
Was it any good ?Leave a comment:
