As long as the first letter and last letters are correct you can make it out.....change the letters and the brain won't be able to read it........everyone at times makes mistakes in grammer.......

I think, barring some sort of disability, almost anyone has the wiring to read that statement with ease. I bet the distinction for the 45% that (according to the statement) can't read the blurb would be that they read very little beyond what they absolutely must (and I'm not talking about the illiterate, I mean people who just don't like to read).

Also, 55 out of 100 people is a majority of people. "Only 55 out of 100" is a bit misleading and by reading the statement, the result of the research would not be that fascinating if only a few people could actually pull that off. In fact, the statement would be kind of contradictory if a majority of people couldn't read it.
