I got caught up watching the Boise Tulsa game

As much as I enjoyed the U.S. win, I'm still quite skeptical about a good 2010 run. I'm still waiting for them to show the grit when it really matters. As good as the side has got obver the years, they still lack the creativity and leadership needed to make a really good run.

I hope I'm wrong and I will be sporting one of my many U.S. jerseys next year, but my heart's been broken too many times.

BTW, I am kind of stunned Croatia didn't make it. That little country has some knack for putting out some top qualitry athletes in so many different sports.

Of the teams you mentioned Croatia are definatly out.

In Europe 8 teams face a one off game with the winners going to the world cup.

France, Portugal, Russia, Greece, Republic of Ireland, Ukraine, Slovakia and Bosnia.

I think thats correct, the draw is on Monday, the first 4 teams mentioned are seeded and cannot play each other, this in my opinion is a disgrace and FIFA want shooting for introducing a rule like this at such a late stage.

I couldn't believe they scored that goal . . . . pretty wild . . and they were a man down for quite a while too. I think France is now in but not sure . . . . . if they held the World Cup in Mexico that team might have a chance otherwise no way. Still alot of shuffling left to do it should be fun to watch unfold over the next week or so.

    started a topic Soccer Anyone?

    Soccer Anyone?

Anyone catch the U.S./Costa Rica World Cup Qualifying match last night?

The U.S. was already in but wanted a tie or win to win the CONCACAF region.

Costa Rica would have qualified with a win over the U.S.; otherwise they would have play the 5th seeded team out of South America to get in.

Costa Rica up 2-nil well into the 2nd half and the U.S. scores around 65 minutes or so into the match. Quite literally the last opportunity the U.S. had to score in overage time off a corner kick and sure enough, we score to equalize winning the CONCACAF and forcing Costa Rica into a single elimination game for a spot in World Cup play.

Mexico finished 2nd (They are so unpredictible. Sometimes, they look phenomenal but then blow it against teams they should beat easily).

I also heard that Argentina just squeaked in which is a shocker. They were almost eliminated from World Cup play which would have been the first time in I believe 40 years or so.

Other supposedly top tier teams are on the brink of not making it. France, Croatia, Russia come to mind....all top 10 teams and may not be playing in next year's World Cup.

Depending on how the draws work out, the U.S. could make a mark in the 2010 World Cup. I still don't think they can beat Brazil, Spain, Italy when push comes to shove but if they keep playing up to their potential, they should do well and hopefully earn a little respect for once.
