No, those upside down apes are a nod to BENEATH. Remember the scene with the mass hallucination when the apes see the crucified gorillas, ultimately leading up to the firey Lawgiver statue.
Besides, the scarecrows to mark the boundaries to the Forbidden Zone are giant "X" shapes covered in fur.

As stated, those apes are a nod to BENEATH when the Mutants projected the illusion of crucified soldiers in a field of fire, the apes did not do that to those gorillas.
And, as far as "Ape Shall Not Kill Ape", they do kill apes for capital offenses. Just as we have the death penalty, and yet we have the Commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill", the apes kill their criminals though they also have the Commandment from The Lawgiver.Leave a comment:

These are off the regular DVD release. Except for punching up the contrast and brightness a bit, they are untouched.
The transfers are pretty good on the singular release (as opposed to the Ape head set where they had old transfers for most of the shows).
Those upside down Apes on crosses I think are Ape version of "scarecrows" marking the barrier of the Forbidden Zone.Leave a comment:

That is really neat !!!!!!
I'm surprised at the quality of these......
Did you clean these up, Mike ?
Also,
I'm not much of a Cartoon Apes person so forgive my ignorance--- but why is there Apes hanging upside down on crucifixes ?
I thought "Ape shall not kill Ape".Leave a comment:

The Planet of the Apes Discussion Group on Yahoo has a lot of these panoramas already screengrabbed and pieced together.
You'll need to join the group to access them, but you probably should anyway if you're interested enough to be reading this thread.Leave a comment:

I want to do this with Star Trek too.
Here is the entire strip of background from the Apes opening credits and the pan in the spaceship. Just got done installing a DVD drive and experimenting with it.
