You think dudes today are tougher than let's say Spartans, Vikings, Zulus, Mongols, Romans, Samurai...of the ancient world?

They would all eat anybody right now for breakfast, lol.

Men were tougher back then....nothing but pansies now.

Let's see how Shaq handles a gladiator on a one-on-one duel during ancient times, lol.

That is until the next superior human athlete comes along in 5 years or so...............
    agreed

I feel bad cause you old guys think that everything from your time was better,I hate to break it to you guys but everything gets better as time goes by,Athletes included

I'm sure 30 years from now players will be better then LeBron or Kobe...and I'll be the first to admit that,I don't know why you guys can't

This whole idea of putting a sports star from yesteryear up against todays players is just sorta silly. You need to judge a player for what he/she did in their era.

I mean, you could take almost ANY athlete from 30+ years ago and say they couldn't hold up to todays standards. Sport has evolved. Different training, different methods, different impact on culture, different business as well. There are too many variables at work here. Do you think Babe Ruth could play in today's MLB just as he was in the 1920's? Yet he's one of the greatest of all time.

Larry Bird is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Easily a top ten choice. Period.

I agree, but that has nothing to do with I'm saying. Like for example I'd take today's Dirk Nowitzki over the 80's Bird any day

If you match up skill for skill between them,Dirk would eat him alive

The game was different back then, most guys were just pure shooters. You didn't see Bird driving to the hoop and dunking all over people like they do now. That's why I'm saying ,that if he played the way he played back then...he would not be close to what he was. I'm not saying he sucked back then,he was great back then. I'm just comparing to what he would be now
