When both of my Grandmother's were alive I called them either Grandma or Grandmother.
When I was younger I purposely called my Dad's Mom - Gram Cracker on a couple of occasions. She was not real hip on that name so I did not make it a habit to keep calling her that name just out of respect.
I never heard of the term Mima...so there goes your "most Hispanics call their grandmas Mima" theory out the door.
None of my grandparents are alive...I only met my paternal grandma...and my maternal grandpa...as a kid.
Like all Mexican households...my sister and I used to call her abuelita.
yeah abuela abuelita is just plain ol' grandmother in spanish ...Mima is different,I guess it's more like Cubans,Spanish,Puerto Ricans and the rest of Latin America
My grandfather on my fathers side who died before I was born .......
My older sibs and all his grandchildren used to call him dedool .. pronounced dee-dool.
I guess that's what Ukrainians call their grandfathers.
Our pronunciation though, might be Americanized and partly corrupted.
My maternal grandmother was Gram or Gramma...I'm not sure I ever addressed my paternal grandmother in any way...we weren't close and there was a language barrier.
I didn't know my father's mother she passed away before I was born, so I only had one grandmother and I called her Mamaw. Both grandfathers I called Papaw.
My son picked this up and refers to his grandparents as such, but my daughter is calling her grandmother "Me-me".
