So "it/the pizza's" origin still remains a mystery..... Maybe a good reason for that. What we do not know will not kill us atleast not real soon anyway in this case. It could have been some kind of a secret gov experiment on kiddies in the 70's.....Let the conspiracy theories begin...
I remember having Pizza Fridays in Jr/Sr. High. the Pizza was sicilian style and it was GOOD! You'd think it had to be frozen but I was never able find out where it originated.
That menu is hilarious. I think between the mention of Sloppy Joes and the menu above with grinders (which we call subs down in Maryland)...I am thinking of the classic SNL Lunch Lady skit with Chris Farley and Adam Sandler.
Gotta love the mimeograph print. That was basically our equivalent of the xerox machine. I can still remember the addictive scents of fresh mimeograph ink.
I think my favorites on that list are either "Frankfurt in Roll" or "Fish on a Bun"
The sloppy Joes were good (as good could have been at that time) as far as I can remember (depending on what school you went to and of course the cook making it)
I had NEVER heard of putting mayonnaise on a HAMBURGER till I moved to AZ. I was at a Sonic and ordered a hamburger and they asked me if I wanted that with or without mayo and I was like, "Who the hell puts mayo on a hamburger?!"
Gotta be a west coast thing? UGH!

I put Miracle Whip on the bread (or bun) and ketchup on the burger.

Dude, in many places across the globe...people add mayo to french fries, not ketchup.
I just checked to find out about school lunches and was surprised to find out that they are $1.85 here in Maryland. Keep in mind that it is Middle School lunch and the portions are smaller but my kids said they receive one main item (pizza, burger, etc.), a fruit or vegetable, and a milk. You can purchase other items seperately but that seems pretty low. My vague memory was that lunch was about $.85 or so when I was in Elementary/Middle School so it really isn't that much more comparatively speaking and I'm sure the quality can't be any worse.
Really? A school lunch here is up to $3, I believe.

We had one that popped up fairly often called "Meat Casserole".
Possum, Kangaroo, Slow Neighbor, at least those would have been less frightening knowing what they were.
