Oh believe me. It was late. I think close to midnight. And I live in a place where they roll up the streets at night. LOL
But it never fails. There can be nobody in sight. Not a car as far as you can see. I pull in and go up to the kiosk and sure enough....3 (impatient) people walk in right away.
Or there is one person there and they have a mountain of crap to take care of and act like they've never seen a computer screen before and by the time they are done (I could've been in and out in 3 minutes) there are like 5 people behind me.

Except no matter what time of night I go to the PO there is either someone in front of me who has no idea how to push buttons or as soon as I get there 4 people line up behind me huffing and puffing because they have to wait a couple minutes. I can't figure out why they dont put 3 or 4 of these self-serve stations in post offices?

I didn't even know WM has self-serve ck-outs?
Never noticed them. Of course I detest WM anyway so I only go there a few times a year.
There are some grocery stores here that after a certain time at night they have NO cashiers at all and you HAVE to use the self-checkout! There is a new chain here also, called Fresh & Easy. They are small store about the size of a Walgreens and they have no cashiers at all. All self-checkout, but they do have one person who will run between registers and bag your stuff if you use the checkout with a motorized belt that moves your items to back of the register. I see no savings in cost of the products. I only go there if they have a good deal in their weekly flyers.

Just make sure you watch the price of everything that scans and rings up.
If it makes a mistake (in their favor), take the reciept to the customer service and you get that item for free.
I can't tell you how much stuff I got for free because Walmarts scanners are so bad.
Kroger, in Ohio does the same thing. I'm sure lots of grocery chains carry the policy. With Kroger, it is usually a sale item that doesn't ring up as a sale. I always catch this stuff after I'm home and my wife goes you paid THAT for this and I say, No, if it wasn't on sale I would not have bought it. I hate that.Leave a comment:

I actually use them all the time at different Stores. I like to get in, & out as fast as possible, if I only have a few items..., & it seems to be the Quickest way to do so.
On the other Hand,.. if you are buying carded Toys with no Weight,.. Like Star Wars, Joe's or even the New Marvel Universe figures,.. self check out at Walmart Sucks & is the Worst. When you go to bag your Item(s) ..., they are so light weight that the machine doesn't register the item when it goes into the bag,.. thus it always thinks you are not bagging your item. I have literally Thrown the Carded figure has hard as I possibly could into the Bag,.. & it still doesn't register Bagged. It blows,.. & is a Real pain in the Arse, so you constantly need the clerk in charge to come over to your Register & constantly correct the Machine. It's a real Drag,.. & isn't faster at all.
.. The Post office Self check out is fantastic. No more long lines,.. unless you Half to Mail something over seas... I go there at night too,.. when no one is there.Last edited by BlackKnight; Mar 28, '09, 9:36 PM.Leave a comment:

Before I used the self scanning checkout, I thought the checkout operators at my local Woolworths were just very slow. Now I realise it is mostly the equipment so I have a bit more patience with them.
I find self checkout okay when I only have a couple of things but a pain when I have a trolley full. It annoys me how they shut down most of the registers so you either have to use self checkout or wait in a huge line.Leave a comment:

I refuse to use the self checkouts, mainly beacause if they are popular, they will take over, and then what are the old grannies, illegal aliens, and heavily made-up/perfumed and acne prone teenagers (male and female these days)going to do for a living?Leave a comment:

I never use self check-out anywhere.
Ever!
Never will.
It's bad enough that we ship most of our work out to 3rd world countries.
Now they want the customers to do what their staff should be doing.Leave a comment:

A lot of places have these now. I tend to use them. I get through the lines faster that way, and for me the quicker I can get out the better.Leave a comment:
