I remember the KB in the Garden Valley Mall in Roseburg, OR. That were I first saw a Acroyear 2 for $12.99. When I finally moved back to Oregon in 95 when I was 27. I bought a walking, Mooing, Moo Cow from KBs. I use to take it with me to my local bar and put the money for my drink in the collar and let it walk down the bar to the bartender, who would put my change in the collar and send it back down the bar to me. -
I remember the Best Store in Billings Montana, I bought a few of my Starcom Figures back in 88 their, along with my vintage Star Wars Imperial Commander back in the summer of 83.Leave a comment:

RIP. All we have left here are TRUs now. If they go in the next couple of years, it's safe to say that my children will never know the "toy store experience" the way I did. KayBee, KiddieKorner, Children's Toy Palace, TRU.......all things that I'll have to explain. Their "toy store" will be a few aisles at Target:-(Leave a comment:

Sorry to say but i'm glad they'll be gone. Never seen such a sloppy runned business. I kept thinking that all the stores in my areas got memos to make their stores look like pig pens and god forbid you ask a question the workers look at you like you have two heads.
I'm sure the workers got paid garbage so in a way I don't blame them. Toys were always overpriced and I could never find anything.
So for me that's one less garbage toy franchise! I have a Mom and Pop toy shop in my town. I try to give them all my business. Rather than the corporate toy stores.Leave a comment:

It's a shame, but they were always overpriced. I remember being shocked that they were charging $4.99 for one Super Powers figure back in 1985. I did spend a lot of money on 3 for $10 Toy Biz figures there, though.Leave a comment:

I really hate to hear this. Although our local Kay Bee isn't anything great (years ago we had KB and another toy store as well that took up four times the floor space of our current one), it's still the only toy store within an hour's drive. It's going to be odd seeing that vacant storefront...Leave a comment:

Now I won't have a reason to stop at the overpriced "Outlet" malls during my travels. Some of their closeout prices were reasonable but rarely anything I wanted!

The only KB stores around here have been pretty lame for the past 10 years or so. When I was a kid, it was nice to go in there with my dad while Mom shopped at the mall. When I first started customizing, I used to go in there and get stuff on clearance to paint and cut apart. But in recent years, all they ever had was Spawn and overpriced Marvel Legends pegwarmers.Leave a comment:

The store around here haven't had anything . It seems the only things were what nobody wanted, at higher prices. I collect legos, and they haven't carried those for years. The writing my friends, has been on the wall for years.Leave a comment:

All the Woolworth's closed in the US many moons ago. I used to go there a lot with my Grandma. Across the street was a hobby shop that we used to buy all those Aurora Prehistoric kits in but the lady that ran it was crabby and wouldn't let any kids in without a parent. Down around the block was this really old Kresges we used to go to. I'm pretty sure it had wooden floors but I may be confusing it with another store. Now that i think of it, I vaguely remember Megos at that kresges. Don't recall them at Woolworths, though.
There was a KayBee liquidator store in an outlet mall here that closed not too long ago. Their clearance prices weren't too bad but not everyhting was clearance priced and a lot of it was junk nobody would buy elsewhere (like a previous poster mentioned).

I feel your pain folks.Finding and visiting a KB was always a priority on US visits!!
Back in the late 80's Canada lost most of its smaller toy chains to the all powerful giraffe. Greats like Tops N' Toys, Toys and Wheels, and Toyworld, and even not so greats like Toy City (which was short lived) all faded out at the same time. I was crushed.....still am. Even Sears Canada tried to ditch toys....some stores brought back small departments, but nothing like the glory days of the seventies. Wal Mart and Zellers still sell toys, and while the Zellers toy department still looks like some effort is being put into it on the buyers end of things, Wal Mart is a joke.....makes me miss the old Woolco toy department even more! Best department store toy departments in the nation!
Educational toy stores are popping up everywhere, but mention the word action figure inside of one, and everybody looks at you like you had a dead squirrel in one hand and a meat cleaver in the other!!!Leave a comment:

I remember BEST. They were basically a catalog store. They relied a lot on their catalog sales, but they aldo had brick and mortar shopps. The one I remember was in Langhorne, PA. It had what looked like giant, brightly colored daisies on it. Always reminded me a giant tampon box for some reason.
yeah the one here had the Best letters in RED and it was right across the street from the Toys R US
i miss that place,it was always dead so me and my little brother would be running around the whole store,Good timesLeave a comment:

Truly sad. The end of yet another Iconic store from our childhood. Well on one minor point, if you were thinking about getting that Signature Series Mr. Fantastic, you better get it now because I believe KB Toys was the only one commercially selling it.Leave a comment:
