I always like checking out other people's DVD collections.

I just grabbed the first quickie spot to hang it and after I posted that I was wondering if anyone would comment on (or even look at) the DVDs.

Hmmmm....

Y'know; it's not just the anticipation that I miss.... it's sseing something I didn't expect. Part of the problem I have with movies and tv is that I can usually guess the entire story from the ad. Because most of 'em are really REALLY genericly written. Same thing with visiting the toy store or hobby shop. Oh look, ANOTHER shelf of Batman figures.... Nobody does stuff like the Tomland figures, or the old UFO Commander Seven series; the weird little thing that's not part of a multimedia blitz. (Although that new belt fed, tripod mounted Nerf MG is nifty!) Nothing comes out of left field. Nothing is unexpected.

THAT'S what bothers me so much. That, and the hype.

Well, here is a look at a 5 year old's point of view: My daughter will watch Peanuts Halloween or Christmas on DVD all year long, but still gets excited when it is on ABC, because that's the version with the commercials. lol.

When it comes to television, I get nostalgic because I really don't like much of what's on there today. I find myself mostly just watching DVDs that I have or reruns of Friends and Seinfeld on the broadcast stations.

Well, we have so many choices today that it kind of blunts us. At least that's my take on it. I kind of miss the days when there weren't 40 zillion different cereals to choose from, and you didn't have instant gratification and actually had to wait for TV shows, movies, etc.

I still have most of a full case of Topps cards from that movie. Full case of shelf display boxes that held individual wax packs. Unfortunately the box got water damaged and some of the shelf boxes got that moisture warpage look but the cards are undamaged due to the wax packages. I still have the orig box even though its damaged. I took the shelf boxes out though.
I could probably take a couple photos of that stuff if anyone is interested?

Yep---something about that movie's premiere for me REALLY says "event".

You really got me thinking about that flick tonight!

In fact I should probably sell a few boxes in the marketplace. I'll never use them all. I already made a few sets from one box and have at least one full set just sitting there.

You couldn't go ANYWHERE without being bombarded by stuff. I remember walking through JC Penney's and every rack along the aisles was packed with every kind of clothing they could stick a Batman-related image on.

Thanks for posting the pic of your cool shirt.

The "BATMAN T-Shirt explosion of 1989" sticks in my mind too.

Actually the JOKER graphics on those shirts reinforced my love
for the character big time---with Nicholson as the Joker
on the horizon I couldn't have been more geeked out---it was
like a "nerd tidal wave" hitting me!

new BATMAN toys (action figures) released in a tie-in with the 1989 movie.

These days it's all about instant gratification. In some ways, I'll admit it's great, but for many kids growing up today, it's all they've ever experienced, and I'm sure there are negative ramifications to that.

You buy these movies, holiday specials, etc because you want to have them to watch whenever it is convenient for you but you never watch them. Then when you are flipping through the channels you will stop and watch one of these movies or shows, even if it's on commercial tv, even if it's halfway through?

Guilty! But sometimes I will flip onto a movie I have and then get out the DVD to watch it.

I don't think the "nostalgia" will ever diminish....only the idea of what
nostalgia IS.

Or maybe the adults of the future will just be emotionless robots...I don't
know.

And all people are not wired the same when it comes to nostalgia anyway...
some are lost without all their little "hookups" to their childhood---
and some people lean more towards growing up and never thinking about
their childhood passions---most likely "out of sight, out of mind"

On the other hand, thanks to on-demand, internet, DVDs, etc. Isn't cool that I can see a Superman movie whenever I want or watch Charlie Brown on a Sunday afternoon?
