Superman the Movie. But I did just watch Doc Savage for the first time yesterday so I guess that’s the last one I watched. Amazing how much they modeled it after the 66 Batman series.

Superman the Movie for me. My parents took me to see it on January 16th, 1979 for my 12th birthday.

Before the movie, Doc Savage had a comic book series from 1940 to 1943, then the Gold Key one-shot in 1966, and then the Marvel Comic series from 1972 to 1974.

Batman 1989 is the earliest I remember.

Batman is also the first comic I read, specifically Detective Comics. I don’t remember what issue. I just remember my brother letting me read it from his stack of comics. It was love at first sight. That Neal Adams Batman costume is the iconic look for me.

Adaptations or adjacent properties I would add. Like Tarzan and Conan and Dracula all had comic books and movies but none of the movies were based on the comic books specifically.

No, movies which had comic book adaptations don't count as comic book movies. Just my two cents.

    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Too much going on in my life in 1989 to see Batman. But we saw TMNT in a special screening before the general release.

I saw many fantasy and sci fi movies thru the 80s but I could never talk my dad into taking me into a Superman film and no matter how much i begged in 89, I wasnt gonna see Batman. My first comic book film ended up being Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with a friend who had just gotten his first car.

I remember wanting to see Superman 78 but we didn’t. That was the summer my then stepdad bought a thrashed Superbird and we got it running for the local dirt track races so my weekends were full of gasoline fumes and hearing loss.
