i saw the movie yesterday. If you can get over it not being at all faithful to the Kirby/Lee version of the FF, it's about average for a fantasy/sci-fi genre movie. It's not good, but it's not awful.
I certainly wouldn't suggest anyone see it, particularly in the theaters, because there is much better stuff out there to see. But, it didn't rot my brain or burn my eyes out.
They did a nice job of portraying the FF's powers. There's a sequence that is reminiscent of the FF's escape from confinement from Fantastic Four No. 2 that was well done, but that's the best thing I can say about it.
I see this as a blood-in-the-water critic's feeding frenzy. Don't get me wrong, it's not a good movie. Very, very average.
Reminds me a lot of the Green Lantern movie, which wasn't a good movie either, but in a couple of years when this FF movie is making the rounds on cable, I can imagine people thinking, "Well, it wasn't as bad as I heard" the same way many did about the GL film.
The difference is that the GL movie attempted to adapt the comic to screen in a fairly faithful fashion. This FF movie didn't. Ben and Johnny are somewhat similar in personality to the comic characters, but Reed and Sue are way off. Doom is Doom in name only.
I'm probably too big of an FF fan to enjoy a take so different from comics. Maybe if it was better made I would have focused more on the story than making a mental checklist of how far off the characterizations were from the source material.
The upside of this film crashing and burning is that Marvel Studios might be able to gain control or at least some control of the FF characters like it has with Spider-Man. But the ground is going to be so scorched after this flop, the question is whether it will be worth it for Marvel to even worry about getting the rights back.Last edited by madmarva; Aug 8, '15, 1:16 PM.Leave a comment:

If they cut that much, you know what you do? Call your agent and walk away. I don't buy that it was so arbitrary, and I his removal from the editing bay was because they fired him.

It sounds like this movie has bigger problems than the number of action sequences it contains. Trank seems like some one desperately trying to salvage his reputation and save his career.Josh Trank swears it wasn't his fault, says Fox pulled 3 key action scenes.

Josh Trank swears it wasn't his fault, says Fox pulled 3 key action scenes.
During Collider Movie Talk, John Campea revealed that multiple sources had informed him that 20th Century Fox had agreed to let Josh Trank (Chronicle) film his vision of the Fantastic Four, but days before the director was to begin filming Fox pulled the rug from under Trank’s feet by taking out several big set pieces. It will be interesting to see what effect this movie debacle has on the studio as a business. They seem to have thrown away all the money spent to make the movie as well as potential profits from the planned series of films. This movie could manage to turn a profit but I doubt it will do well enough to ensure a sequel.Leave a comment:

Max Landis, who I usually don't buy from, had a really good breakdown via Twitter. When you parse it, he's saying Trank is a good dude, but he had no idea what he was getting himself into. The last line reads as if he Max is acknowledging Trank tapped out during production, which was the rumor.
I didn't realize Trank's resume was so shallow. Fox got what they deserved then.Leave a comment:

If the movie was good the dierctor would be taking the credit, but because it is a disaster, he want's to distance himself. I do think Sony did some damage to it but
they must have thought it was bad movie already . If there was a good version one year ago than why would'nt they have released it ?Leave a comment:

Disingenuous and woe-is-me, I'm thinking. If Josh Trank was that upset, he should have insisted on the Alan Smithee option.
(I thought the Defoe Goblin was pretty gobliny, just poorly costumed in something more suited to the Scorpion.)Leave a comment:

Yes, its a real example of how not to do a Marvel franchise, alienated the fans from day one by not going to the comic book source material. Doctor Doom is nothing like Doctor Doom, very much like how Sony treated the Green Goblin. Director blaming others is poor show, at least be a man about it and take full responsibility for this train wreck of a movie.Leave a comment:

^ I hear Denny's is selling more Thing burgers than Fox is tickets.
Seems ironic that Denny's is the only chain to market Fant 4 Stic.
They have a lot in common. For $8.00 they will both serve you a steaming pile of garbage that's impossible to keep down.Last edited by enyawd72; Aug 8, '15, 5:16 AM.Leave a comment:

I just don't get it. No other movie in history has appeared this universally screwy to me as far as the whole process, and public perception of it.
It doesn't seem possible---it's like everyone, corporate and consumer alike, is part of the process more than ever---but, I guess it's the result of our society's ever-building intense media reporting and interwoven Internet communication, add to that that this is the "hot" "hip" anticipated superhero property product sought so much today, consider the VERY loose lips on part of actors (and others directly involved in the production), and it's down a freakin' big rabbit hole.
Usually I focus on "following the money" when looking at "Hollywood strategy" type stuff like this, but, with this specific F4 scenario, I can't help but think:
"Forget the money loss... it's more amazing what a waste of everyone's time/energy this appears to be."Last edited by huedell; Aug 7, '15, 10:10 PM.Leave a comment:
