Bryne looks like he doesn't get out much, brilliant at what he does for a living...but ignorant of life in general.

I know Bro....I use to dig him but never liked his ego....when he said that, I dismissed him as being a total arse....

So why should black be so much worse?

Goodness what a hot pile of dung this movie is going to be. You would think if they wanted to develop Black heroes for Marvel they'd just go straight to Luke Cage and The Black Panther....but noooooo let's change existing characters to something else so it's sorta like the comic but not exactly....Mr.Fantastic should be a Hindu, Ben should be a Big Mexican wrestler, Johnny is Black and Sue could be a hot Asian chick then we'd have the real Fantastic Four.....lol

This new actor playing Johnny Storm...he is a good actor, an up and coming fresh and likeable actor (he was great in both Chronicle and Fruitvale Station)...I don't trip on his race, just on whether he's a likeable talent...and he is.

Had it been someone like Kevin Hart, I'd hate that, not because he's black, but because he's an annoying, obnoxious, and unfunny dude.

It depends on the particular person...not his/her skin color.

Damn those negroes, oh the horror, the world is gonna end.

This is exactly how this thread sounds.

Everybody craps the same crap, white, black, brown, yellow, red...the same smelly crap.

These are fictional characters being played by actors...Jesus...it's not like George Washington is being portrayed by Oprah...friggin' relax already...this is mind numbing.

Throw out all the modern Bat films. Since Burton, the batsuit in the movies is radically different than the iconic comic book look.
Throw out Captain America: The First Avenger. Pretty radical revision of the classic uniform into something more military.
Throw out the Garfield Amazing Spider Man films. No glasses, and much more "skater kid" that sweater-vested nerd.
Throw out Man of Steel. No red undies.
    And so on.

My guess is some of those films you like. Some of those films you hate. But I doubt your opinion of any of them would be swayed either way by an outfit change.

However, I'd say making the Human Torch obese or geriatric goes beyond physical appearance. Having lived for 75 years fundamentally changes the character. Someone who is defined as being young, brash, and impetuous now has a lifetime of wisdom and experience... and that is not a superficial change.

We can debate whether Johnny Storm being white, or the Storms being a bi-racial family, is a "superficial" or a "fundamental" change to the character. Race is about more than mere physical appearance. But to me, it falls somewhere between changing Caps uniform and making Peter Parker a hipster.
I respectfully disagree. The immediate distinction between people of different races is their physical appearance, so it definitely matters. It matters as much as gender. You wouldn't make Batman a woman and still consider him the same character would you? No, because his sex is a part of his identity. Well, so is a character's race. It goes far beyond a change of clothes.

Well, it that's the case...why not have an obese Human Torch? How about a 75 year old Human Torch? If you tried either one of those, people would say...he's not supposed to be fat! He's not supposed to be old! Well, he's not supposed to be black either.

There has not been one move made with this film that has even remotely made me want to see it. Maybe Fox will lose so much money, the property will eventually revert back to Marvel.

Even though he's African American, Johnny Storm is arguably better cast than Reed Richards and Sue Storm. I've never heard of the guy playing Thing. At least Michael B. Jordan is close to the same age as Johnny and can be engaging while playing the hotshot. Kate Mara is five years older than the mid-20s Miles Teller, who is 10 to 15 years too young for the part of Reed. Not to mention, his on-screen personality is more of the class-room cut-up, slacker type than workaholic genius.

I don't even understand why Fox wants to make a FF movie, considering the choices it's making. The company seems to be putting together Fantastic Four movie in name alone.

The actress cast for Sue is white, so figure out that gene pool.
