So.... Batman is Superman's dad?
I shouldn't joke; someone will hear me and the comic IS about due for their semi-annual reboot....

I won't answer for the lunatic fringe. So lets not cross pollinate their insanity with what is here. I questioned the choice and then have proceeded to pick at the funny aspects of it, which you indicate is non-offensive from where you stand. The Affleck concept art LOOKS good. All I'm saying is it doesn't mean anything. It's evidence of nothing. George Clooney would look good in that cowl and lighting too. Do you want him back? You could probably put Justin Timberlake in that cowl and he would pass as well. But lets be completely realistic here. Ultimately Affleck lives or dies by the treatment. He's also only a guest star. So he has no responsibilities to a franchise yet. If it doesn't look promising, he can gracefully bow out and say he planned it that way. So he gets an easy payday to grimace behind the cowl. Affleck is a capable actor. But he has a career coated with odd choices and high profile misses. So the risk of his casting (at such a pivotal moment in building the DC universe) seems questionable. And his reputation built from those flops is exactly what feeds these parodies. It's the extremists on either side that use them as a tool to argue against one another. Ultimately its up to Snyder and Affleck to prove their worth. The box office will ultimately speak for this decision. And no one has an answer for that yet.As far as petitions and Presidents... yeah, not HERE... but isn't it funny that some that feel along the lines that you do, are actually DOING such things?
All I've seen the "Affleck-positive" Net-people do is neat stuff like that meme that originally got me to start talking here. That's a great looking Batman.Leave a comment:

Meh. I didn't draw first blood with skeptic-talk outta the bag (or those meme parodies, which, personally, I didn't mind)...We all have hopes for a good film. But people are properly cynical about the selection. You of all people should appreciate that. Calling people "hateful" for displaying parodies and wanting to "shut (them) up" is a strong reaction to an otherwise harmless (and healthy) expression. I don't see anyone signing petitions or calling the president here. THAT is going overboard. Lets just have fun with the topic until we have REAL evidence there is something to embrace. BTW... Nice one Clemso!
And, as far as me not drawing first blood... neither did the others who just look at "the Affleck choice" as (at the least) "palatable". Also, you ("not" of all people) misquoted me.... it's common knowledge that there's a significant difference between calling someone a "hater" and calling them "hateful". You haters know who you are... and I'll leave the "hater" thing at that.

Er, people aren't kissing his cheek... they're just trying to shut up the haters with some "evidence of hope"... Not really working though. For me Batman is not about the costume, so this doesn't tell me anything. You could put any of the actors who have already played the role in THAT mask with that lighting and they would all look just as good. Besides we don't know what the next Batman outfit and cowl will look like. Will Snyder put him in the existing outfit from the Nolan films or make something entirely new? Nobody knows. So we'll see. Hopefully they can pull it off. But for now Affleck reads like an odd choice. I need to see something pretty solid before I kiss his cheek like some are doing.

Funny thing is... I can't disagree.
Now... if I DID disagree, I wouldn't've posted that sentiment... 'cause I think it'd be a VERY opinion based opinion... even the most cynical guy would have to admit that that serious Affleck pic looks at least KINDA good.
But, really, although I've always been partial to West and Keaton's very unique lower faces... THAT Affleck looks closest to what I've always pictured from childhood on... maybe cause Affleck has SO "little" uniqueness in his facial features? I don't know, but even with that 5 o'clock shadow, it STILL looks best of all live-action Batmans I've seen (and, yes, that includes whoever that guy was from Collara's lauded short film).Last edited by huedell; Aug 25, '13, 9:13 PM.Leave a comment:
