^Once they are made you should send copies to WB/DC, but they'd probably still miss the message. -

Well said. I'm already past that point.....I gave up on new comics. I now live in the past collecting, what made me happy. Not true. I'm very particular about what I like yes and quite often I feel these projects fall short.
But you know, I've reached the point in my comic book life where I just don't care anymore.
That's not to say I'm still not interested in my four color heroes but I've definitely lost a lot of passion
and fervor when it comes to these things. I feel burned out.
Super-heroes and DC in general, Batman and Superman in particular have been "my thing" for about 40 years
now but I think I've lost the fire so to speak. The characters in any of their current incarnations
(comics, TV, movies, toys) haven't represented my interpretations of them in quite some time.
In print it was the New 52 that was the straw that broke this camel's back. In film it's been seeing
WB/DC lose ground to Marvel again and again, under utilizing characters that have been marquee
household names for 75 years. And yet Rocket Racoon will be on the big silver screen before
Wonder Woman or Aquaman or the Flash or the freakin' Martian Manhunter for crissakes.
The most fun I've had with DC heroes in a long time now was last night. My daughter and I
cracked open the Lego Batman 2 wii game we've had since XMas. It may seem simple and basic
but those are the closet I've felt to Superman, Batman, Robin, et al in a long time.
That's why I just don't care too much about Affleck's casting. Personally I think he'll do
ok. And if he doesn't, I'm not so sure that's "my" Batman anyway. And at this point I'm really not
sure I'll ever see him again. That ship may have sailed...Leave a comment:

You summed up my new "Zen-like" attitude toward these things nicely. I was honestly pretty disenfranchised even BEFORE the New 52. It was just the final nail in the coffin for me, signalling that MY DC was not coming back. Not true. I'm very particular about what I like yes and quite often I feel these projects fall short.

>I tend to believe they're going to do something very jarring with Batman and Superman/Batman is going to look and feel more like Arkham City or Injustice than anything else
I could see that; but I don't think it'll be that jarring for the majority of the audience. Think how many folks have played those games.... they're used to the look and feel. Plus; those games use a lot of contemporary design philosophy, so folks are already primed for that sort of thing. And as long as stuff blows up, a significant percent of the audience will be happy.

BTW, I found Argo to be a bit overrated (I preferred Zero Dark Thirty). I mean decent movie, but Affleck as the actor, didn't do much in it.
IMO, Affleck's' best acting performance was in The Town, that's a great movie, and he really delivered in that one.Leave a comment:

And I don't really care about Affleck playing Batman, because I really didn't enjoy Bale that much through the last trilogy. In DK Rises, Batman's teeth looked fake and I couldn't understand him. Maybe Affleck will be better.

Man, I really can relate to what you are saying.

As far as The New 52, it sounds like something I really wouldn't like. I haven't had the time for comic books like I used to have, and I certainly wouldn't appreciate those changes.

That sounded so cool, I did a little digging and came up with this. It's the Hot Toys '89 Batman, but with the blue and grey look. It actually works really well!Leave a comment:

Very interesting. I will be watching with much curiosity. Smells like a stylistic train wreck.Don, it's like I said before; every action film up to that point starred a lantern-jawed lead and shot in the streets of Los Angeles.
No one saw Burton's gothic Gotham coming because it didn't fit the summer model. So the pre-visual was a juiced-up Keaton in a skintight blue/grey Reeves-Superman suit running around L.A. Until the first trailer hit, then it was jaws on the ground.
It took Raimi, (and Singer to be fair), to flip the deck again and go back to more realistic locations. It then took Nolan to say, "screw it, let's go to the streets".
While it took Nolan's involvement to make MOS visually realistic, Snyder with has been leading us back towards more set designs. Now, if Nolan is stepping out, then look towards Watchmen and you can see Snyder's preferred method, which is creating a hyper-real greenscreen world. That means we're left relying on Affleck's Argo/Town to maintain anything Nolan did. But after Daredevil, why would he think that's going to work?
It's why I tend to believe they're going to do something very jarring with Batman and Superman/Batman is going to look and feel more like Arkham City or Injustice than anything else. I mean, you can see how easy it would be for Snyder to translate those game worlds into a physical set piece.Leave a comment:

I say we let him direct the movie too. The guy loves comics and I think he's a decent actor. Argo was amazing. So it's not who anybody thought they'd pick but that's good. Remember Heath Ledger being picked as Joker and everyone freaking out? Then he was awesome. Granted it's not my Joker (which would be Mark Hammil) but he was great for what they wanted to do. I think it could be the same thing here.
Get rid of Snyder and Goyer and I'll be happy with whatever happens next.Leave a comment:
