Spider-Man: One More Day Conclusion

I love Mark Millar, but you can tell his hands were tied with Civil War, and it was really stupid of Marvel to not let him continue doing "The Ultimates"! As I've said before Marvel has great characters, but crappy people in charge of them!

I loved Millar and Hitch's Ultimates but have had no desire to pick up Leob and Joey Mad's version. So my only foray into the Ultimateverse appears to be done...

Wow! I thought I was the only person to dig Jenkins' run on Spidey. Not that he was able to capture the suitable action tone much of the time (Typeface?!), but there was something about his ironic sense of humour that really clicked with the character of Peter Parker. Some really great character bits, particularly the flashbacks to Uncle Ben.

I was always dissappointed that Jenkins' run on the Hulk was aborted. Still waiting to see if they ever do anything with The Devil Hulk (although perhaps that is the plot point that Loeb and McGuinness' Red Hulk is picking up on?)

I'm rather partial to Jenkins for several reasons (Well, my name's sake here was created by Jenkins for one thing) but he just has that old-school touch to his writing, one of the reasons the Sentry's story really got my interrest. He goes back to the good old story-telling times, when you read comics because you loved it. There were crappy situations but the good guys won and the bad guys lost, but in Marvel, the good guy lost more then the bad guy did in order to get the upper hand (Gwen Stacy and Betty Banner anyone?) Jenkins really got it. Where other Marvel writers are really coralled into doing what the higher-ups tell them to do, they give them a crap sandwich and tell them to make the world take a bite without ketchup and napkins!

After reading I just figured they'd bring it back together via the "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". Makes me sick. Seriously, Marvel makes Days of Our Lives look like an episode of the Real World. I know it's fiction and all, but what about those great storylines of the 60's, i.e. ASM 31-33. The good old days. Lee. Ditko. Nuff said.

Does this mean we're gonna witness a yearly Doc Doom/Spiderman team up where they both try to get their Mother/Wife back from Mepphisto???

I thought Doom saved his mom from Mephisto?

Joe Q and Jimmy Palmiottie ran their own comics company, Event Comics which self-published Ash and Painkiller Jane.

Following on the heels of the "Heroes Reborn" experiment which allowed Homage/Wildstorm and Liefeld's Studio (I can't remember what it was called at that point) to produce FF, Avengers, Iron Man and Cap, there were other attempts to outsource the production of comics to other companies/studios. I believe Chaos was given a shot at one point and they produced Supernaturals (featuring c-list horror characters).

Event was given the opportunity to take B and C list Marvel characters and publish them under the "Marvel Knights" banner. This proved to be a moderate success, with Joe Q and Kevin Smith on Daredevil, Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon on The Punisher (after a slight misfire), Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee on The Inhumans, and Christopher Priest initially launching Black Panther with Mike Texiera on painted art.

What differed from previous outsourcing situations was that Joe Q and Jimmy P were given offices at Marvel. When Bill Jemas was looking to launch what would become The Ultimate line of comics, Joe Q was instrumental in facilitating that process, including hooking him up with Brian Bendis (and I think Mark Millar). The Ultimate launch of course exceeded everyone's expectations, and I would imagine was instrumental in putting Joe Q in the Big Chair.

Does all of this mean that Aunt May no longer knows about Peter's secret ID? I thought that was one of the better modern day contributions to the mythos...

I know they've given him him web-shooters back instead of having them be organic.

And there's something a little Norman Bates like about a guy who sides with his crusty ancient aunty over a superhot wife.

It's a mess...........World War Hulk is the best thing I've read from Marvel in years,(about time he took the fight to them for a change ) Hulk, anything with The Sentry and Black Panther and Cap are about all I read. I love the characters, (well, cept for some) but Spiderman has lacked in the writing dept for years IMO. DeFalco crushed him in the 90's and Joe Q is picking up where Tom D left off, the New Avengers was the best idea he had during his run as EiC IMO. JMS is a wonderfull writer but he got tangled in the web Peter David got caught in, Peter had great ideas for the Hulk run but Marvel TOLD him what to do and it began to really get stale after a while, Jenkins did the title justice but Marvel has a way of gutting the big guns. I can't explain it. Wolverine loosing his adamantium, Spider-clones, Venom going "Good guy", the list goes on and on. If I didn't love the Hulk, Sentry, Panther and Cap so much I'd bail!

I think it's annoying that Marvel keeps trying to clear Spidey's history, they've been trying it since the 90's with that awful clone saga.
