I'm hoping and praying that the critics will not crucify Captain America the way they did Green Lantern and that it can at least go nose-to-nose with HP if not beat him on his opening weekend.

I'm of the opinion that since this was the "last" Harry Potter movie [for now], and the studio promoted it so heavily [so much so that I wonder if GL suffered for its' sake, after all, both are WB products], many people just "had" to be the first to say they were there when the last HP film came out.

With any luck, some of the shine will wear off by next weekend and Cap will have a chance.....

Even if Cap is #2, as long as his take is in the $60 million plus range, it will be considered a hit. I don't think anyone would expect it to totally eclipse the last Harry Potter film. Nothing can.

I'm not sure about Cowboys and Aliens. It looks cool, but Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig have both had some major bombs in recent years. The premise will either appeal or repel, since there is really nothing to compare it to.

Considering the fact that it raked in almost 170 million its opening weekend, I can't imagine that there are that many people out there who haven't seen it yet (me being one of them, but I'm just not a huge HP fan)...

Really? You guys are freakin sour. We finally get a first class production of Cap with some real money and talent attached. Not to mention the promise of Cap in an Avengers movie along with a sequel in the works and you all are worried about HP & Transformers.

Who gives a crap? I'm trying to think of a way to sneak out of the house and catching a midnight showing (if it's available).

I disagree that the General Population doesn't know this Guy .... Cap was marketed for Years in Marvel's " Top 3 " with Spidey & Hulk ,... sure the theme has shifted more so towards Wolvie in the Last few years..., But Cap's Face is there ...., He's also On Every Bit the Merchandise that the other 3 are, and has been Since I was a Kid in the late 70's. He is More so Reconizable than GL ..., who's popularity with the Comicbook Readers really only truely Hit in 2004.

+ Every Person that's actually following these Movies ... Know that Thor, Ironman, Hulk & Cap = The Avengers Movie.

Seriously, I have high hopes for this and really want it to do well. I'd kinda like to see this beat out Transformers, but I doubt that'll happen. Steve Rogers deserves to be the best.

I fear that Captain America will get gobbled up in the mayhem between the last Potter film and Cowboys and Aliens that comes out the week after Cap. Once again, we have a hero the general public only knows vaguely about (like Green Lantern). They will likely lean on the critics to determine whether or not to see Cap. So, unfortunately, another hero film lies at the mercy of the critics. I would say reviews will begin hitting Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. We will know then whether or not Cap' will be given a fair shot at the box office. I doubt Potter will miss the top spot in his sophomore weekend. But if Cap can get good reviews and good WOM, he can develop some legs and make some solid money.
