Other comic companies wish they had the kinda iconic characters and designs that DC seems more than thrilled to just toss away. Yawn. How long could these possibly last. The original Kid Flash suit is so cool, I can't imagine playing with it. All those old Image books are in the twenty-five cent bin now and that is where a lot of these designs belong, too. (IMO) -
Lee's XMEN costums were good for the time, but are dated now, just like his new stuff looks.

...
Lee's X-men Designs were some of the Best Costumes in Comics imo ....
His Characters He Created from WildC.A.T.S to BackLash to Union to Grunge were Awesome to me ....
The over all costumes of this New DC World ..., are Horrible.
I really can't take it all in ..., when I see them .
... It's a Mess all across the board.Last edited by BlackKnight; Jun 11, '11, 3:43 AM.Leave a comment:

What I hate about the design is that it was left up to one dude. It's like all the characters in the DCU went to one guy to buy their costumes. It makes more sense to have more than one designer on these costumes.
Lee's an excellent artist, but all these characters look like late 1980s X-Men characters he created or something from Wildstorm that died a decade ago. And with all due respect to both the X-Men and the work many put into Wildstorm, they aren't the DC Universe, where icons live.
New/redesigned costumes might make an issue or an arc sell better than average, but it's not going to create any real traction with the readership new or old. It's the stories (art and writing) that will sell this stuff.
Comics and super heroes are a niche market that appeals to a certain type of person. Most folks don't care enough about Superman to drop $3 to read 1/6th of a story each month, and no matter how many times the origin is rejiggered or the costume is doctored.Leave a comment:

Wow.. thats about all I can say .... Cass looks okay and Tim without the wings but really Conner looks terrible he isnt even wearing a costume just a black tank and black pants without that tattoo (again how does a kryptonian get one of those?) how do you know it is conner??Leave a comment:

Booth is the Best Damn Artist to come outta the Jim Lee Image Camp.
For that Reason ..., I gotta give it a Shot.
BackLash was the Best Wildstorm Comic imo.
I'm enjoying his current Run in JLA right now ..., with Eclipso as the Featured Villian.Leave a comment:

>today's artists could stand to learn the "Keep it simple..stupid" mantra
WAAAAYYYY back in the day I remember eading an interview with J. Quagmire, where he mentioned using simpler designs 'cos you're gonna be drawing them thousands of times and you don't want to spend time fidgeting with detail, or trying to remember the little bits. Maybe that's one reason modern guys are so slow? But there are design bits that carry through different eras. In the 90's it was pouches and shoulder pads. Currently it seems to be extraneous padding. All the extra stuff tends to look awkward, and brings up questions: such as, what DOES he have in all those pouches?
I agree that the simpler designs are usually much better; especially if you're gonna just end up going the "spraypainted nekkidguy" route with the outfits anyhoo.
>it's like saying "Blue Batman" or "Red Captain Marvel" it's just redundantly lame
Red Superman! BLUE Superman! WOOOOO!!!!!
>I was thinking The Secret and Empress from Peter David's Young Justice
