Batman Inc must be over

I'm actually more of a raving fan for Morrison's more oddball stuff like We3 and early superhero experiments like Zenith and Doom Patrol than I am for his more mainstream Superhero stuff, although it's always an enjoyable read for me.

Here's why I think there are only a handful of Morrison-likers here though... he doesn't hit the proper notes between that 70s/80s nostalgia demographic, nor the current grounded Batman we see in the Nolan movies.

I mean I often find myself laughing out loud when reading Morrison's stuff, which kind of goes against the grain of what most want out of a Batman comic.

If fans want to see Batman travelling into space, or hanging out with Bat-mite they tend to want to see it in context of that more fun goofy milleau... like the Batman Brave and Bold cartoon with it's devotion to the look of Dick Sprang, or even the Adam West "Camp" tv show.

With much of Morrison's stuff, and undeniably Miller's Latter Days output, there is a definitely an undertone of laughing AT Batman... or at least questioning his mentality on a level that the character was never meant to stand up to. Killing Joke was pretty much the end of the line in that regard. I get why fans would be off-put by that thread of inquiry because it tends to collapse under the weight of his most ludicrous elements as Morrison pays tribute/pokes at Caveman Batman etc.

I loved Morrison's JLA (esp the first several arcs) and really liked All-Star Superman. But his Batman work has rubbed me all kinds of wrong.

Morrison is the same schmuck who "didn't trust" Martian Manhunter despite his being a founding member of the JLA.

His Batman, Inc. is on par with Frank Miller's All-Star Batman and DK2. All this nonsense with Darkseid and time-travel. It seems like Morrison and Miller just hate the character and get their kicks out of spitting in the face of fans and the people that sign their checks.

Anyone remember how Morrison closed out his run on Animal Man? It was basically the middle finger to whoever would write the comic after him.

I was hoping DC's try at Heroes Reborn would undo his crappy run, but instead in their wisdom they appear to erase the Killing Joke. Brilliant.

Glad Damian's staying for the time being and glad Morrison's writing him.

Would be entirely surprised however if they didn't make Morrison put all the toys away back the way he found them after his run.

Making the reader who actually has been following his run initially hate the character of Damian... because they are predisposed to anyways, before making him much more sympathetic as time goes by, and finally killing him just as you start to care about the character.

Although when you think about it, Damian is very much the reflection of much of today's potential kid audience. Just as Robin was initially intended as a certain kind of wish fulfillment back in the day.

Think about it... how cool would it be to find out that Batman was your dad? Not only that, but you are the biggest badass ninja who can whup anyone's butt. The sad truth is, the state of today's families is that often kids are stuck between a mom and dad who don't live together and don't necessarily get along and are alternately absent (emotionally or physically). Well there is a reasonable explanation for that... he's fighting crime and she's busy trying to take over the world. Y'know, yypical modern parents with careers. Doesn't matter 'cause I'm ROBIN!

Yeah I was hoping they would have ditched some of it too...But the light at the end of the tunnel seems to indicate that eventually Morrison will be off the book:

Inc is back in 2012 and will be 12 issues, Morrison needs lead time to get to work on Superman and finish up Multiversity. Glad they kept Damian. I really thought Tim would end up taking up the Nightwing mantle with Dick staying as a Batman. I still wonder if its a smokescreen after seeing the first art from Nightwing. The red bird symbol on him might be a hint that its not really Grayson.

Well, I think it's great they're getting rid of "Batman Inc."...but I'm not happy about them keeping Damian around.

And what about Tim Drake? No mention of Red Robin?

Damian has to go. Bring Drake back and send Jason Todd away also.(Not a fan of the Red Hood thing. It was a cool story when it came out and a story it should have been left at. Continuing his character is pointless.)

All these multiple Robin side kicks and crazy stuff should be done. Get back making it simple.
