I love the 30s and 40s logo...I dig that really old school stuff.
My dream is for someday to actually see the original Action Comics #1 Supes on the big screen...not quite being able to fly, or even remotely have the speed of light...more like leaping tall buildings on a single bound...and be faster than a speeding locomotive...that way...he doesn't completely overpower gangsters so easily...that movie would absolutely rule...
I know I'm beating a dead horse here but... you pretty much nailed Smallville's first few seasons. Give it a shot Hector... you may like it after all.
The characters are supposed to be younger and the new outfits are meant to reflect that. However, if that's the point then why you would get someone so steeped in the 90's to redesign your universe?
Cause he's Co-Publisher and they have to give him something to justify his salary other than the on-line game designs he does...He hasn't been on a regular comic book in years, since Superman with Brian Azzarello, no?

I hate Batman, Superman & WonderWoman's new Costumes.
Something like Jordan's , no Green Underwear, ... was ok, and an Improvement So to Speak.... as well as Aquaman's new suit.
These Characters are not The X-men. You just can't pop them in new suits Every 43 years, and run with it.
So when everything gets re-vamped, is Superman gonna be Superboy ? Is this the Change that is Major ?
.... Are these costumes changing, like say Thor did, because it might look Better on Screen ? Batman's new Suit looks an Awful alot like The 89 Batman Film.
Aside from the Jacket, I like the new look Wonder Woman. Pants are not such a bad thing. Besides, they can always mix it up. Sometimes she can wear the short shorts, others pants. Everyone of course is going to love Wonder Woman's classic look. We grew up with it. It's whats familiar and comfortable. But I guess DC felt she wasn't selling comics and tried to mix things up.
I remember the Batman "new look". It was a joke. They got rid of the shorts over his pants and called it a new look. I remember an issue of Robin around that time where Batman wakes Tim up and Tim says something like, "oh man you scared me. That new costume is really intimidating". I said outloud "how is that scary? He got rid of the shorts??"
As for Superman's new look? Adding a collar and angling up the S doesn't bother me. I will of course prefer the old and familiar over anything they change.

>Does anyone believe that a person who has never read a comic book in their life really cares about costume changes and tweaks to the origin of 50 characters, most of which they have never heard of?
True; and this kind of thinking is demonstrative of the problem the Big Two and a Half have had for a while: costume tweaks appeal/don't to the hardcore fan. The casual reader wouldn't care, and probably wouldn't notice. There's an obsessiveness with the minutia that really doesn't matter; from the companies and, sadly the fans as well.
>Nothing absolutely nothing was wrong with Superman or Wonder Woman's costumes.
True; and as you pointed out, recogniton is a big deal.... but if you want to shake things up a new outfit is the way to go. It creates a visual cue as to when the "new era" started. 'Course, then yoiu've got to come across with the goods.... or maybe start ANOTHER "new era" next year....
>Making this announcement one issue into Flashpoint really doesn't do much for the mini series or its spawn.
Yeah, but a longtime reader probably realizes this is just another go-around on the reboot trail. An attempt to "new" up things. Which isn't to say it'll neccessarily be a bad story. I think the hype is more the problem than the actual reboots: by playing them up for months, releasing little bits, press releases and talking points.... they set the audience up for WAY mopre than they can deliver, especially on a perpetual book. "IS Batman dead?!?!? Has Superman REALLY relenquished the cape?!?! Is Aquaman REALLY an evil zombie?!?!?"
No. We all know that. None of this is new; they used to do stories like this at least twice a year back in the "good ol' days;" they just didn't hype them up so much. (HOW MANY "Superman is DEAD! NOT a dream! NOT an alternate universe!!!" covers did DC do back in the 50's and 60's?) They were allowed to happen, and the reader could make up their own mind.
>I thought Jim Lee's DC Universe online Wonder Woman costume was terrific, and I'm really not sure why they wouldn't go with something like this
I suspect it's 'cos that's basically the 50's costume; and the whole point of doing an outfit change is so you can tout the "newness" of the character. "What is this? Looks like my Gran'ma's bathing suit! Feh; we want HIP, NEW.... what're the kids into these days? Give her them baggy pants that are always fallin' down.... and a toque...."
....never mind that she comes from a culture that's been in stasis for the last 2500 years....
