Hmmmm...so I guess this brings us back to the "Child-Like or Cynical" topic I posted before. I'm glad I can still enjoy cartoons of my youth.

Challenge is the best of the Super Friends bunch IMO...The original hour long episodes of Season One are more boring to me...

I definitely notice the recycled footage. It's nice to watch an episode with my sons, but it doesn't do much for me without the shared nostalgia factor. I love it when I see a still or screen shot here or there, but the BTAS stuff holds up infinitely better for me on the viewable scale.

I agree about Super Friends, although I think Filmation's Tarzan still works, story-wise. It's just the constant re-usage of shots that annoys me.

All of the Super Friends episodes are tough for me to watch today, but Challenge at least has more of the heroes and villains from the comics. That makes them more interesting to me, but I would never argue the scripts or animation was better on Challenge than the other 1970s Super Friends shows. They were all geared to kids and done quickly and cheaply on the fly.

The Super Powers scripts of the 1980s were better.

I also enjoyed the Super Friends season that was themed around children's literature. It episodes based around Arabian Knights, The Hobbit, King Arthur and Alice in Wonderland, which I still think is a neat idea.

The show doesn't hold up well in general to me as an adult the way Speed Racer, Jonny Quest, or Popeye do. They all had a little more broad appeal and sophistication than Superfriends.

yeah, it is easier to watch in single doses as an adult.

All Super Friends episodes (save a very few) are a bit hard to watch without the nostalgia goggles on. That being said, although Challenge is repetitious, so is the first season of SF, where every "villain" is some misguided scientist who just wants to help. I'll take Solomon Grundy over that anyday.

Other than for nostalgic kicks, it is harder to watch these as an adult, particularly compared to how awesome the past twenty years of superhero cartoons have been. I think they are generally better left in my childhood memories.

I generally try to avoid many of the old superhero cartoons that I thought of as pretty awesome when I was still in my single digit in age. Spiderwoman, Fantastic Four, the Thing cartoon (Thing Ring!), Shazam, etc.

I mean try watching those filmation ones! Or the original Marvel animated kirby panels.

I have not seen an episode of the Super Friends in any of its iterations since I was a little boy sitting in front of my parents B&W T.V.; I loved it back then is all I know.

And to be fair, I DO like Superfriends '73, '77 and World's Greatest.

Ok, I know a lot of folks like this cartoon, and I'm not really knocking it, but after watching a few eps, I was finding that the plot was pretty much the same week after week: Get rid of the Superfriends, and world domination. It was pretty predictable, really. And I know that folks liked that they showed some of the other Justice League characters and the villains, but I kinda thought it was just too much.

    Anyone else share these thoughts?
