I'm pretty sure it was this Daredevil comic:

Don't know if I fully comprehended what was going on in the book, I was 4 years old when I bought it, but I do remember buying it in the stationary that was down the block from where I lived. Used to walk to the store with my Grandfather and as he was getting his Italian newspaper, il Progresso, I had 20 cents and bought this Daredevil comic. I also remember buying a Green Lantern/Green Arrow comic from the luncheonette that was directly across from the train station where we would drop off my dad when he went to work in the morning. Mom let me pick it out. I wish I could say it was a Adams GL/GA...but it was an issue just after GL returned to his own book in 1976. Somewhere between issues 90 - 98. Hey, it was Grell so it was about as good as having those Adams GL/GA's

This was the book that really got me hooked though...used to take this out of my Elementary School Library for weeks on end:

The fact that most of the book is in black and white didn't even phase me...used to just sit and read for hours. Funny thing is...my school only had the Batman 30's - 70's book. They never had the Superman book...which was fine by me...never really cared for Supes.

Also had a few relatives that would bring over Diabolik...problem was it was in Italian and I couldn't read Italian at that age. I do remember those covers though...Fantastic art.

As a young kid I had random comics before I became a collector - like Looney Tunes, Twilight Zone, Superman Family and Archie comics. I loved the newspaper comics too. When I got a little older I LOVED Mad Magazine.

The comic that got me hooked on superheroes was this one:

The cover just blew my mind - and I HAD to buy it and find out what happened. That got me hooked on Marvel comics.

My mom got me this little paperback of Fantastic Four reprints:

It blew my mind - and I've been a big Jack Kirby fan ever since.

I remember my mom giving me a dollar to pick out some comics. The were 20 cents at that time and it was before I could read and before I was in kindergarten. I got an Adventure starring the Spectre, Were Wolf by Night, a World's Finest with Superboy and Batboy, and a Spider-Man book. they were bought at a convenience store

The next comic purchase I remember was an issue of Flash in the 220s with Green Lantern as a back-up. GL has been my favorite ever since. I got the book along with an Icee after a Wednesday night church service. My mom said she read GL comics when she was a kid. But she was talking about Alan Scott not Hal. Unfortunately none of her GL books were still around.

What got me hooked was a friendship with another guy who actually bought new comics each month in the second grade. At the time I knew there were new comics, but I just bought comics here and there. Hulk was my favorite comic at the time around issue 200 or so. I was hooked by the fourth grade. I started going to flea markets in Memphis to buy back issues probably around 1977-78 in Memphis. Started going to a comic shot regularly around 1981 or so. Shortly after that I started getting the comics buyer's guide and started buying old comics through mail order.

I don't know what got me hooked, Spider-Man most likely. I think I got some comics from older neighbor boys that grew out of them. I bought most, if not all, my comics at one particular grocery store. I'd peruse the selection while my mom shopped. I also remember falling in love with Origins, and Son of Origins, of Marvel Comics. I was a Marvel kid all the way, although some of the stuff I inherited from the neighbors was Archie and Richie Rich type comics.

    Hmmmm....

I can't remember a time when I wasn't surrounded by comics, but the first ones I read that really made me think there was something to them was Judge Dredd, Grimjack, and Mars.

My first exposure was a stack of Bugs Bunny comics given to me by a Blonde stewardess in 1969 on a PanAm flight...I remember how tall and beautiful she was and her handing me the comics I remember going WOW!

Then getting Great Comic Book Heroes by Jules Feiffer which reprinted both DC and Timely comics....it was published in 1965 and I was given a copy in the early 70's...I was hooked and carried the book everywhere with me and it's the reason I love the Golden age version of those characters.....

It must have been a Superman comic that i bought first.....

started a topic First comics you bought , what got you hooked.

First comics you bought , what got you hooked.

My first comics were from the Hardware Store bought by my Dad. They had the covers cut in half so they were illegal. Three consecutive issues. It was Big Wheel in "Amazing Spiderman", and two White Tiger.

I wish I knew the issues but I also had a Batman Family with Batman on the cover in the snow with a white bat. I learned how to climb doorways thanks to that issues Bat-Escape.

I had a Superman Family with a woman changing into a Centaur unicorn and HER SHIRT CAME OFF!Darn that long hair. I saw a Superman Movie billboard in the background art so that dates it.

Dad gave me my only surprise gift ever. Told me to look under the big wood TV as he was about to drive off to second shift as a crane guy.. Star Wars giant size #2 ! I dont have much from Home but I still have that. Who needs a VCR with THAT and some Trading Cards.

Then a neighbor brought over and forgot Rock and Roll . I had him for one day before i had to give him back. During that day I watched Wes Cravens Swamp Thing on cable TV while fiddling with that straight arm GI joe.
First comics I bought with my own money were GI Joe and pre Alan Moore Saga of the Swamp Thing.
    Then I was hooked.
