I actually think this "open source" Superhero thing is quite cool. You've got Dixon/Berraton's Black Terror, Dynamite/Ross and co's, and Moore/ABC's.

Not bad for a superhero that was relegated to obscurity for decades.

Green Hornet #1 came out today, excuse me...KEVIN SMITH'S GREEN HORNET. There are 12 freakin' variant covers to this book. Ridiculous! Does ANYONE buy all of them? Seriously?

How does Marvel get messed up in the Super Powers non controversy? I understand AC and ABC Comics/Wildstorm/DC. ALthough, AC really missed the boat on those characters by not doing anything with them except lackluster black and white comics.

I'm not really sure, other than they own the trademark on Daredevil, which forces Dynamite to call the original Daredevil "Death-Defying 'Devil." And they previously used the character of Strongman, who appeared in the list of characters planned for Superpowers. Almost every company has used public domain characters before, whether it's the Black Terror, Dracula or Santa Claus. I personally enjoy seeing the different interpretations of the characters, and I think Project Superpowers is a good book with a potentially great universe of characters.

Marvel said they owned one of the GA characters dynanite was going to use...dont remember which one?As you said it became non-issue of sorts. did force DC into bringing back the Super Powers trademark though.

I was disappointed in the way they handled the Battlestar Galactica license. I prefer the classic series, but they wrote their classic stories like they were the new characters and story lines with the illustrator drawing the original likenesses. Hard to explain, but if I'm shelling out $4 for nostalgia, then I want it to feel old school.

I've looked a Lone Ranger but haven't pulled the trigger on purchasing it (pun intended).

I am still not sure exactly what the relationship is between Ross and Dynamite...they were publishers on his recent Marvel work...is he exclusive to them?

Yeah, awhile back Dynamite announced they had the rights to The Phantom, and those rights were (and still are) under contract to Moonstone. I remember Moonstone being kinda professional about the whole thing in their statements to the media, and Dynamite's Nick Whatever being less than professional.

Personally, the Sherlock Holmes book they did was very good, And I've been keeping up on Zorro & Lone Ranger, but doing so through the clearance boxes, I haven't bought a full price issue of either in quite awhile. I started Project Superpowers but quickly realized it was headed nowhere and served only to trademark Alex Ross costume designs and endless character logos.

I had some hopes for the Green Hornet, but since they've announced , what, FIVE individual series, each with 4-6 covers per issue? Not buying in, sorry. I'll get 'em later. Won't be a problem , plenty of supply.

Somehow I think Diamond Comics has a hand in this whole affair, butI dunno. They throw a lot of money at licensed properties, somehow that's gotta come back and bite you. Seriously, Robocop?

And I agree, the concepts are excellent for some of these series, the endless pacing and nothing hapening issues are too much to deal with. Lone Ranger's been around for 4 years and only 20 issues? C'mon....this pacing makes Flash: Rebirth look like a whizzer!

Yep that was the first shot across the bow. They tried to steal the license. Not sure of the details, but in the end Moonstone had something in place, and KF and Dynamite couldnt do anything. Once the license term is up though, dynamite has already stated they will beat any offer Moonstone makes.

The other two properties are based on old sixties tv shows. I wont name them directly since I'm not 100% sure its not supposed to be hush hush or not....Either way, Dynamite didnt win any fans in the way they handled these dealings.

I really wanted to like their Lone Ranger, but decompression doesn't begin to describe the slow-as-molases pacing going on there. I'm not even sure the Rangers ever made it into Bryant's Gap before I dropped it. And that was like issue #7 or so I believe.

Project Super Powers looks pretty on the outside, but these characters have been done by others, and done better from what I've seen for the most part. Ross' involvement gave it a certain pedigree, but that's about it.

Which other licenses? I know about The Phantom, but thought Dynamite had stepped off and decided to wait for the license to expire before beginning their run (no doubt with Alex Ross involved somehow).

My LCS owner kind of forced Super Powers on me because I like Ross so much. I gave it a shot but dropped it after a few issues, the concept was solid but the pacing was turtle like and some of the dialogue was so infantile, it made me angry.
