I'm primarily a buyer these days. I sell magazines on eBay, but those are ten-dollar items, so people normally pay.
It seems the consensus on eBay is that they aren't on the seller's side anymore. I think they need to take steps to change that.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

i got an email from ebay today about how they are changing things to make it easier for the buyer to ask to cancel the winning bid, but of course it is up to the seller whether or not to honor that requestComment

That's why if you sell on Ebay using the Buy It Now format, it is crucial to require immediate payment before the listing will be ended. That way, if the buyer has remorse and tries to cancel, it is entirely up to you as the seller whether the transaction will be reversed.Comment

That's exactly what I do ^^^^Comment

Over the last few years, I have been mostly a buyer on eBay. Before that, primarily a seller to clear things out. When I sold something last week, I was shocked at the difference of what I sold for and the amount I received from eBay. What a rip! I am trying to clear things out again and I usually go the auction route, with some Buy It Now! options. I hope I don't have to start dealing with cancellations along with exorbitant eBay fees. Dealing with customers was one of a few reasons I stopped selling for so long.
I wonder what the reason is. All I can think of is that people are bidding on multiple auctions for the same item and wanting to cancel the higher cost auction if they win more than one.Comment

not only do i get a crazy amount of cancelled bids, but also a lot of non paying bidders which you then have to wait 5 days before you can cancel them. yeah, ebay is a ripoff, but it is still the best option to sell collectibles. other than now Uncle Sam wants to get his grubby paws in too. maybe it is just better to sell at a toy show

I haven't sold on eBay for years so I can't speak to the OP, but I do still buy frequently. I have, and always will, pay immediately whether it's a requirement of the deal or not. If I can't pay immediately, I don't buy or bid.
What I can attest to is that I have seen an increase in sellers not shipping their items out. They create the shipping label within a day, and then never take the item to the post office. I generally allow a week before I contact the seller, and then another week before I involve eBay. Then it can take another week or more before eBay will take action. This has happened to me 9 times in just the past six months. All of those 9 instances were Buy It Now listings, and 8 of them required immediate payment.
I always check feedback before bidding or buying, even though eBay has made it more cumbersome to drill down to the actual "classic view" feedback (the only way that you can see their actual record). As a rule, I don't purchase from anybody with less than 99.5% positive feedback, unless it is 1 or 2 negatives that drive that percentage for lame reasons like "item isn't what I thought it be" or "seller took 2 days to ship the item out". The last 3 instances were people with long standing accounts and 100% feedback. The excuses run the gamut, "I'm busy", "I can't find the item", "I'll drop it off tomorrow", etc. The worst is when they just dodge the messages altogether.
The arrogance it takes to require immediate payment from a customer and then refuse to ship their item out is beyond my understanding.Comment
