That was my plan. Then I was gonna urethane the heck out of it BEFORE painting, to cover up the wood grain.

Go to the dollar store or toy shop and buy some cheapie car with lights and/or sirens and use the setup from that. (I have a bunch of 'em that are going into the head of a Mego custom, just as soon as I finish carving them.)

I have that project going too. I'm using a clear plastic stand for the floating effect. My thing is wiring it to light up. The electrical part has put the project on the back burner for now.

THAT is a fantastic figure! I was planning to do one myself, and this is almost exactly how I was gonna do it. Two small bits I might do differently:

-for the grill work you could build a frame out of thin wood or thick cardboard and glue a piece cut from a window screen in. Painted it'd look just like the grills on the original.
-for the floaty effect I was gonna build a small wooden base and support the figure with a rigid wire from the bottom.

Now you gotta make them antigravity clamps to go with.

I thought about doing more detailed grill/screens and a few other details on it, but after looking at some of the other Mego figures I decided to try and keep it in the true flavor of the Mego line and keep it "play" friendly with being kind of basic and not highly detailed.
I am playing with the idea of making anti-grav clamp accessories though as those would help hold him in place inside the blister bubble better

Yeah, he is a bit tall but as we know part of the fun with Mego figures is they are not always exact. I debated whether to cut one of the Mega Blocks in half which would have shortened him more, but I like how well he fits in the blister bubble at this height. If I make another one I may try and make him a bit more to scale. I also would like to make one where the body is not looking like it is in two sections. I may just get a light block of wood and carve it up so the body is more accurate as one section. Anthony's backer card rocks and really adds the final touch to my custom Nomad

Without a doubt, the most original Trek custom in a long time. If Doc/EMCE/Diamond ever does carded Trek accessory sets then Nomad must be included!!
