Doing certain characters in Mego format, you do at times run into the problem of what's available to make this particular person. THere's a limited number of options when it comes to certain traits or ethnicities in the 8" realm, like the following:
Bald heads: Usable totally hairless male heads are still hard to come by. Mattel's retro hero Lex Luthor is virtually flawless, the gold standard for this. But other than him, you've got the bald boxer from Mattel's Real Men line (and there you have to literally chop the head off the torso) and Daddy Warbucks from the 80's Annie Knickerbocker dolls (and he has no neck, so you have to do some work). FTC has the Super Friends Luthor which is in scale, but the eyes have no whites and the sculpt is only okay. The comic based Luthor head looks great but is way too big.
Ethnicities: For brown skin, things are better since Mego came back. Old school, Huggy Bear and Dobey from Starsky and Hutch were just too specific to be much use (and Huggy has a weird shaped head). Falcon has the mask, which limits him. LJN had two heads from Rookies and SWAT, but they didn’t match a Mego brown body. Now we do have Muhammed Ali, Apollo Creed and John Stewart who are usable. Also, Worf’s body is a near perfect skin tone match for the LJN heads. Candyman has the big head problem, though. But for females, we only have Uhura and Tootie (Dinah Mite is way too expensive to even consider here). The Discovery Michael figure has a badly bloated head, so she isn’t really usable. For Asian figures, we had nothing in the old days. Now we do have Sulu and Bruce Lee for those with a Y chromosome, but nothing on the female side. Outside of that, we basically have Ponch for Hispanic/Eastern male skin tones, and the Cornelius body works for that. For females, Zira’s body has a usable body for that, and Tootie’s skin tone is so light it's a match for Zira.
I know there are S type bodies that fill in some of the ethnicity gaps, but is there anything in a more classic Mego form that folks have used that I've missed?
