For me it started out as a nightmare job that turned into something that I managed to get a system down after making almost fifteen of them in the last year or two.
My first attempts I had blue fur glued to my hands and finger tips. I had to literally pick it off my finger tips with tweezers so I could play the guitar. My band mates had some weird thoughts but they figured it out when I showed them what I was doing.

I have only made three this year and I am sure I will get a few more people asking me to do it for them. I might make a tutorial on a website showing the new task I came up with to apply this fur...

My Uncle who is one of the original mego customizers from "back in the day" (1978-1984)
He came up with the idea to use the Big Jim Gorilla. So when I started to buy back and recreate the collection for me and my daughter I snagged a Big Jim Gorilla off eBay and we repainted him to look like Grodd and he fits well with the mego collection. My uncle is good with a brush. He spent hours making this ape look like he had grey hairs. You should see what he did with my Hawkman head. LOL

You want a Gorilla Grodd? You can probably find these things on eBay.

My bad - the image in my head went back a ways (only because of my age and no the art :-) )

I actually found that one really quick on a google search - it was more recent than I realized

Was that Grodd with the cape or are you thinking of Solovar, the ruler of Gorilla City? I always remember Grodd being naked.

    Edgaar's Stuff - Grodd

Here is Grodd as I have hime now - should finish tonight - Couple of things - I liked when he when with the cape back in the day. The boots and belt were added only to set him apart from just another gorilla figure - not sue I'm "diggen" it yet.

Let me know what you think! Suggestions welcome

The body suit is a darkened WOZ lion, cape from Arthur and the head is from a smaller King Kong

I think you should go with a WMWD approach, given that there are decent modern grods, and Mego would definately have used an existing ape head and probably a muscle body. The trick would be the suit, and head paint. Laurie at Toy fanatic has some alternate ape head casts you might look at.

Wow those boxes are sweet. Since Grodd is supposed to be larger than normal humans maybe the larger Mego Hulk body would be appropriate? But if you wanted it to be classic Megoesque like the regular 8" Hulk body with a POTA gorilla head would be a good start. I started a Sasquatch from Alpha Fight once using the more muscular Mego 12" Superman body (least I think it was Superman), but kindof lost interest because it wasn't coming out right like I wanted. This was back in the 90's before I knew about Apoxie Sculpt - I would approach it a lot differently now.

Hey has anyone done the Ultra Humanite before?
