I tried the die thing and ended up with a mess. I also tried to get a double breasted suit made to no avail, so I gave in and updated the characters warddrobe a bit. Black suit and a brown trenchcoat.
Still, he really should be in a dark green double breasted with a purple cloak.
I wasn't happy with that dusty, too-pale green and have continued to look for other options.
I bought some RIT dye to make a green suit too but I bought three of the white suits from CTVT. One I dyed with the light green. Yuck. The second with the dark green. Too dark. I haven't done the third yet but will be mixing the 2 dyes together and hopefully will get a better green.
^^ I was mulling over the idea of doing that but wasn't sure if it would work. Hoping someone had done it and had a photo to share. Guess I will have to find out for my self.
Thanks for ideas!
If the customego pattern is classic alter-ego style (with the squared-off bottom hem on the jacket), try extending the lapel side about 1/2 inch. Remember to still allow a seam allowance.
This extension, when sewn, should let you overlap the front coat panels & create a double-breasted affect. Which can be accented with double pairs of buttons; you'll need to off-set the snap closure accordingly.
I missed hawkmike's post. (pm sent) I would still love to get this pattern. I ended up using a CTVT white suit dyed green for my Sandman and Johnny Thunder customs.
These suits worked fine. I still wouldn't mind having suits that fit a little better and are more 'authentic' looking.

Yeh, I am going to try that! (I'll let you know how it goes) Thanks del!
I'm looking forward to seeing the results. As far as I know, and from looking at photos of real suits, that seems to be the only difference between the two styles. If you just cut your front panels so they overlap further, it should look convincing. Did you take a look at those scrapbooking brads for use as buttons?
