Orca the Killer Whale (1977 movie)

49 years ago after Jaws, Orca premiered at the theaters

A fisherman and his crew are targeted by a killer whale seeking vengeance for the death of its mate.

I remember seeing the poster at the theater but we did not watch this till it showed up on TV. That baby Orca scene still sends chills down my spine.

Gem City Comic Con 2026

So this past weekend was Gem City Comic Con, one of the bigger pure comic cons in the region. It was held over 2 days (Sat & Sun) at the Marriott on the campus of the University of Dayton.

One of the organizers, Jesse Noble, is a friend of mine and I helped him distribute posters and bookmarks for the show to some of our local shops, and had gotten a couple of free passes to go on him this year.

As I mentioned, this is pretty much a pure comic book show-no media guests, non-comics merch and vendors, etc., just comic creators, comic dealers and a couple of toy/comic merch dealers.

The guest list was small, but interesting

Stuart Sayger
Dave Aikens
AndyBennett
Jason Moore

and a couple of local Indy/self-published creators.

I went both days. A friend came with me on Saturday, so I was more browsing looking around, chatting with guests, etc. Sunday I was flying solo and did more digging.

Here was my day 1 haul

The Robin Hood book by Grell was $4, the Avengers $5, the stacks of comics were all $1-$3 with 2 exceptions. The Solomon Kane book isn't out yet (well it drops tomorrow) but Stuart had done a variant cover and had signed copies for sale. I had ordered it, but not Stuart's variant, so I grabbed a copy.

and my Day 2 haul

The front left pile were $3 each, all the other stuff came out of dollar bins. The back right stack is all Batman, the back left pile all Superman, the center back misc. DC and the front right misc. comics. Casca was an adventure series form the 70s featuring an eternal warriors (a la Highlander before Highlander). I've been wanting to try it out, but never found any in the wild until this show. It was $5.

I'll do more detailed pics in posts below.

From Joan Crawford's finest film, the story of a woman and the caveman of her dreams. A relic apeman is found in a remote cave in England. Joan plays the anthropologist who studies him. Michael Gough ruins everything for her. I've collected video since the eighties, so I have ALOT of movies on VHS, DVD, and MP4. I had the movie playing while I was putting the finishing touches on. I was thinking the whole time "this movie stinks", but the character is interesting to try. Made on a Type 2 body. The head is by me, with my attempts at "flocking ". The loincloth is made of terricloth with some fur glued on. The boots are made of brown cloth, with more fur glued on. Glued some fur on the wrists and the back of the hands. Put fur on the shoulders and chest. The face(if you call it that) isn't exact, but it still looks like a cool throwback. With the Taurean, Bigfoot, and Monster on Campus, I have a primeval furry 4 pack.

The rocks reminder me of the boulders that come with the POTA Catapult Playset. I personally do not have one, but I thought I would float this out there for anyone in need of extra boulders!

Ghostbusters (2016) 10th anniversary

Following a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat.

This movie had a hard chance at success. Being a female driven action/comedy/horror film. The stars were strong comedians I have watched and enjoyed seemed like a great setup but the movie tanked with the fans of Ghostbusters.

My problem with the movie was it was a reboot instead of another branch of the Ghostbusters like the comic books. Would have worked out better and did in the future movies.

Since I did the Star Trek Taurean, and I've been using fake fur for a couple of customs, this seemed the next logical step. Aside from Mego for me, nothing said the seventies like Bigfoot. From documentaries, Boggy Creek, In Search Of, and The Six Million Dollar Man, Bigfoot was popular. Mego could have done a line of generic figures like Bigfoot, Mothman, and a local for me, The Jersey Devil. A missed opportunity. Like the Taurean, used another Cowardly Lion body. Just cut the chest fur a little. Did some painting on the toenails. Made the head myself using fake fur. Tried to model it on the CTVT Sasquatch head. Put him in a picture with his Far East cousin the Yeti.
