Here is my custom of John Wayne in his famous cowboy outfit. Got the head sculpt and painting done way back in the day from Dave McCormick, original mego body, clothes, western boots and six shooter and western rifle from classic tv toys, the neck scarf was a quick put together by me, classic toys didn’t have it in white.

I couldn’t find a pink shirt to match the back picture, but would the Duke be caught in a pink shirt to begin with? get real pilgrims.

Card art was color printouts off the internet cut to fit the clamshell case, the figure slides out and back in, I thought a front picture with his name at the top with the American flag backdrop would be cool.

John Wayne is known for his many western movies, so I thought it would be fitting to dress him in the outfit.

DC Elemental Firestorm

This might be, let's say a shallow dive for some, unless you read Firestorm in the eighties. Writer John Ostrander had succeeded Gerry Conway as writer. From the start, every couple issues saw changes to the status quo. It made for a fresh and exciting read. His run was the first to introduce the concept that different people could form Firestorm when Ronnie paired with a Russian named Mikhail Arkadin. The book hit it's stride when Tom Mandrake became artist. If you read Spectre in the nineties, you know what they could do. The eventual payoff was the concept that Martin Stein was destined to be a fire elemental, like Alec Holland with plants.The presence of Ronnie Raymond messed this up for years. Eventually, Firestorm attained his true form, and became an elemental. The series was a bridge with Vertigo. Had some mystical elements, but stayed rooted in the world of superheroes. I think the initial design was by Tom Grindberg, but refined by Mandrake. Firestorm was my favorite DC book in the 80s. Had some advice from a fellow member. Don't know how well he translates to Mego form without a 3d printer, but I gave it a go. On a classic Trek body. Painted the hands and boots. Sculpted fire "hair". Put him in a reddish purple bodysuit. The other fire effects are with pictures from the net, printed on photo paper. Tried to use lighting in the pics to make the fire and silver face pop out. He's my little Elemental On the Shelf.

Used the Snow Ghost body, and wolf head from CTVT. Had to piece the unitard together to get it to fit over the fur. Painted the finger and toenails to try to make claws. Did the trim and belt with green colored electrical tape.Took a couple pics with Spidey and Morbius inspired by Giant Sized Superheroes #1. Also did a family pic with my werewolf collection.

Did her in this outfit because frankly it was simplest, and I hate her tuxedo look. If she had been done in the seventies, this was her outfit. I always thought of it as her "love me for my mind' outfit. Dick Dillin drew a heck of a Zatanna. Makes a nice addition to the Super Gals. Coincidentally, JLA # 161 was the first JLA I ever got. Didn't know who Zatanna, Black Canary or Red Tornado were. Pretty much simple kitbashed. Got a blue bodysuit, cape, and Supergirl slippers and a black haired figure from CTVT. I did have to cut off the sleeves, and make some cleavage. Got a blue reusable shopping bag, cut a triangle out, glued it on the chest. After drying, cut the cleavage. It reinforces the suit so there's no fraying or tears, and it makes an instant collar Even tried to do a ponytail. I'm not a stylist

Been playing with my new multi-color 3d FDM printer, and made a couple new Trek accessories...

TNG Helm Console

{"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/MWf8iv2.jpeg"}
{"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/8dRsFlb.jpeg"}
{"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/qzFdYxr.jpeg"}

I found a few existing 3d designs that had elements I liked, and I custom designed the rest. The chair and the console swivel. The lighting area is hollow and has a channel to run lighting. Mr. Data is on a Type S body with the new "space boot" legs, and is wearing the updated Mego TNG uniform.

TOS Transporter Console

{"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/exnfhq6.jpeg"}
{"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/PR17f0T.jpeg"}

This transporter console replaces the paper one I created (https://megomuseum.com/custom/timd/timd8.jpg) 15 years ago. Again, this is a custom design I remixed together from some publicly available models. Transporter Chief Kyle is a head from a SWAT figure (I think he makes a passable replacement), and a jumpsuit I got from Theresa back in the day.

While I still need to dial in my printer settings (these weren't even printed at the highest resolution), I'm really happy with how both came out. The photos show all the layer lines and imperfections, but on the toy shelf, I don't really notice them. The multi-color print produces an end result that is very toyetic and fun.

There’s a ebay seller who sells custom made EMCE Diamond Select and Classic TV Toys size backer cards that fit clamshell cases for EMCE Diamond Select and Classic TV Toys 8 inch figures.

I thought this was pretty cool and since I had an extra couple of EMCE cases from Dr. Mego, and a bunch of Red Shirt figures, I picked it up.

Original mego Star Trek body and pants.

The repro red shirt, Galahad head and blue weapons belt from Dr. Mego. I wanted to try and match the picture on the card and decided on Galahad.

Thanks to museum member PNGwynn for the suggestion on Sir Galahad.

Original mego Star Trek body and pants.

The repro red shirt, Galahad head and blue weapons belt from Dr. Mego. I wanted to try and match the picture on the card and decided on Galahad.

Thanks to museum member PNGwynn for the suggestion on Sir Galahad.

Werewolf? There! There Wolf. I first saw Frankenstein 's Bloody Terror and Assignment Terror as a ten year old, on a double feature one Saturday afternoon on Doctor Shock. With commercials, three hours of werewolves, vampires and other monsters. Loved it. I look at older customs to get ideas, and saw Waldy done a couple times. Monsters and Mego go together like Vodka and borscht, so I gave him a try. Done on a NuMego Screaming Werewolf body. I kept the pants but did a different shirt. Based the head on one of the mentioned customs. Painted the finger and toenails to give him claws. Made the chain. I suppose it would have been cheap enough at a craft store, but I hate spending money I don't absolutely have to, and I had a Lock n Lock filled with perfectly good paperclips. The other customs had shoes, but I thought a werewolf should have Wolf feet.

Cleaning out my parents house and today we ran across a find. My nephew is going on 12 so finding his old toys is something. Way back when he was little his parents started him on Mickey Mouse so he had lots of Disney toys.

One of his favorites was my red Empire Van for Mickey and Minnie. That van went all over the yard and beach. The 1976 Empire Volkswagen Van made it through another childhood.

Aquaman vs Great White Shark 2026

Just a dumb little thing. Hope I didn't raise expectations. I was ten years old in 1978, and obviously a Mego kid, but I never saw the original in the wild. I did read about it years later even before I got back into collecting. Aquaman was always my favorite Mego (don't know why). I looked at the repro set from CTVT, but wasn't paying $80. I did see one on Ebay, but it was over $50 with shipping. Could get more figures for that, but I still debated with myself about it. Mid August last year, while the debate was raging, I stopped in my local Walgreens for some Aleve for a headache. Was passing through the toy aisle and I saw something in the corner of my eye. I literally took a couple backward steps and saw something called a Robo Alive shark. The package was similar, it was the right size for a Mego, and since summer was nearly over, only $12. The lightbulb went on, and I bought it. As I mentioned, I like Aquaman Megos, and got the 50th ann one. I also found a CTVT two pack for cheap on Amazon, so I had three of them. Cracked open the two pack, put one with the shark and viola, a budget "custom". Until I can get a repro for $25-30 range, this is a good stand in. Besides, be honest, as much as we all love Mego, that was the worst looking shark toy ever. There are some videos of the Robo Alive on YouTube. I don't have a picture, but I stuck the Aquaman shark artwork on the box. Thanks for reading.
