Scooby Doo and the Gang
Author: Derek Combs (Megospidey)
Line: World's Greatest Cartoon Characters
Toy Execution (Vintage, Custom or Digital Art): Custom
Packaging Execution (Custom or Digital Art): Custom
Toy Customizers/Collaborators: Customizers: Derek Combs (Megospidey) and Justin Mabry (nightowlghoul) Collaborators: Paul Riggs (Merlyn1976) Joe DeRouen and Russ Pittman (Customslab) (they all supplied much needed parts/materials for this project)
Packaging Customizers/Collaborators: Anthony Durso (TheToyroom)
Author Notes: This is a line of figures for which Mego should have acquired the license to produce, but did not. Since 1969, Scooby Doo and the gang have enjoyed a nearly 30 year run of popularity amongst children and adults. Who doesn't love seeing Velma, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, or Scooby unmask the villain at the end of the show to reveal the real culprit? Big thanks to Justin Mabry for producing the Creeper and Anthony Durso for the wonderful packaging.

I love this line! It's so cool! If I had been a kid back in the day watching this on Saturday morning, I'd want this whole set! I'd be the first one on my block to have one!:drool_y:

These are beautiful. My son is into the modern Scooby figures, and he would absolutely flip over these. Given the Scooby rebirth, it's too bad EMCE can't mass market an assortment or three of your designs. They are so spot on, I just love them.

It's also historically accurate, it was mentioned prominently in Vinnie B's note (http://www.megomuseum.com/megolibrary/interviews/vinnybaiera/interview.html)s.

What might have been. Think of all the Fred and Scoobys that would have been cannibalized to make Marvin and Wonder Dog.

Zoinks and Jinkies! They look better than your first run Derek! Kudos to Justin too for the Creeper figure! Awesome work!

FINALLY! I thought you'd never come forward with these. Seeing how Mego was already playing with the idea for a Scooby line I can't think of a line that deserves it more to be in the catalogue

Love the Scoob. A few more villans and Srappy too. With so much material over 30 years there would be a ton ov villians. Also they could have used their standard action van and made the Mystery Machine!

The reason why we only did two villains is to show the possibilities. I had originally planned to do just one...the Witch Doctor. Justin inquired about being a part of this project and wanted to make another villain...and I'm glad he did. His Creeper is spot on!

Derek, didn't you do a Mystery Machine?

Two villains is perfect for a first assortment in my opinion. The following year they could add more and Scrappy and then officially jump the shark. :smiley1:

Yes...I did a Mystery Machine and still have it. It wasn't the best job...I was just getting started customizing. It's big, and I can include it if this project is selected...what does everyone think???

Honestly, it's pretty crappy doo IMO. That's why I didn't include it in the submission.

I know what you mean, but it's nice to consider---and by the way it looks pretty great. When you look at the real catalogs a lot of the stuff is fairly rough prototype stuff. Obviously, we all want our work to look as good as possible, but there's a difference between factory good and prototype good.

The Mystery Machine is a pretty obvious need, but might also have come in wave 2? They could have reused the VW van, but for a line this big they might have invested in a new vehicle tool.

Derek,
Seeing it with fresh eyes helps . I think it's awesome . I didn't make it so I don't know it's flaws and wouldn't want to look for them if I already think it looks great.
Most artists dislike their work thats why we make it for others to enjoy hehe.
I vote yes!

I say add it to the submission, it looks great.
If you think it looks bad because of the stickers, remember the VW vans also have 'em all over the place, that's how Mego did it.

I would have flipped for that in 1978, and my kid would flip for it now. Fantastic work!

Yeah, it's the stickers and the fact that I forgot to paint the interior of the van, as well as the bars on top.

It also is on a newer Barbie van, something that would not have been available in 1978.

My knowledge of Barbie is limited other than the fact I step on and around them all the time.
My daughter makes a Barbie mine field. Pink Pink everywhere!

I think the idea is there and it looks like mego would have made it maybe toss some paint on the bars.
Your call of course.

It just now ocurred to me that there is an articulated, Mego-size Scobby out there. I've had one since I was about 7 years old. I got it at the Kings Island Amusement park in Cincinnati. They used to have a section of the park called "Hanna-Barbara Land". In addition to everything being themed to the HB characters, they had several shops. I picked up figures of Scobby, Scrappy (they didn't make a Shaggy apparently) Yogi, Huckleberry Hound, and Fred and Barney. I used to use Scobby with my Mego Batman and Robin (they were acquainted after all). My son has my Scobby...somewhere. If I can find it I'll post pics with some Megos. If you could find that Scobby, it would round out your great customs nicely!

This line is so perfect for mego and you really captured it. In addition to the mystery machine and additional figures (the harlem globetrotters, anyone?) They could make a haunted amusement park playset.
