Ex-Midway employee is the real inventor of the Nintendo Wii tech. Nine years ago.

This is just starting to hit a couple of the game sites I go to.

Adding motion sensing to what is basically the Gamecube brought Nintendo from distant last to first place in the industry and give Ninty a license to print money. The thing is a Midway employee actually invented it nine years ago. It is eerie watching him play Ready to Rumble exactly like Wii Boxing on the Sega Dreamcast on a nearly decade old video clip.

    This guy really got boned.

YouTube - Interview with Pat Goschy, the Nintendo Wii Inventor
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Motion has been used for years, it's getting the developers to make it a functional part of the game instead of making it an interesting gimmick that Nintendo was able to harness. The past two Nintendo systems were plagued with a horribly small library of games which really hurt them against the huge collection of other systems. Nearly everything of interest had to be either directly inhouse or from a very close 3rd party team. They seem to be letting the reigns slack up a bit.
